Bud's Meats, located on Petaluma Hill rd near Penngrove does one of the best jobs smoking and packaging your fish. We take all of our Sturgeon and Salmon there to have it done up proper. We dropped off that Sturgeon featured in this news letter last week and had it brined and marinated with the Garlic Pepper flavor marinade. Unbelievable flavor guys and if you haven't been in there yet take your next fish to Bud's. Smoked Sturgeon or Salmon are inexpensive x-mas presents! Here are some photos from our fish and a link to their Facebook page for more info and their contact info: Bud's Custom Meats

Arnie Yamasaki landed a couple of nice stripers on the Napa River Sunday, November 4th. Bullheads for bait from Lucky Leonard's Dexter "Last Cast" Tracy does it again. I mean I wouldn't even recognize this guy if he wasn't holding a fish in his hand. Nice pick up!

Fishing Update
**There were proposed changes to sturgeon regulations that were approved yesterday by F&G:**
This proposal recommends amending sections 5.80 and 27.90 to also prohibit use of snares, hooks other than one single point, single shank, barbless, removal of fish greater than 68 inches long fork length (FL) from the water; and to require use of fork length measurements. More to come as we get it. We arn't sure when these changes will take affect but we will keep you posted. To read the full transcript from the meeting Click Here.
Petaluma River: Striper bite is great here in the Petaluma River. There are still lots of fish that love that salty water (sharks/rays) but If you can fight through them you can try for a sturgeon. We have many customers still losing Bass rigs and losing big fish that shred their line. Sturgeon will do that to you, this is the time of the year you need to switch to braded line and wire leaders to bring in these fish. Don't be a Jabronie! Lauren and Steve a couple of regulars fished last Sunday here on the river in between the bridge and the power line an d reported just one striper measuring in at 23". See from the Photos below that there has been many fish caught here over this last week and if you have kids that cant sit still now is a good time to take them fishing with bites and action every ten minutes or so. Capt. Joel fished last Saturday here on the San Pablo Bay near the mouth of the river and the action was wide open. As seen in Ep. 30 we landed plenty of Sharks and even two keeper Bass.
Napa River: Primarily Stripers being caught here in the Napa River. Dennis Grossi reported that he "has been trolling the napa river since august i have had a great season the numbers are going down but the fish have been great in size". Being that most the fish here in the Petaluma have been in the 20-25" range in you were looking to catch a bigger Bass we would head to the Napa river with Bullheads or Grass Shrimp. The upper river has been pretty solid near the Cuttings Wharf area on live baits.
San Pablo Bay: Its blowing like a bastard out there today. Most the boats have tucked into the river here but for those crazy enough to stick it out they can expect action from the Sharks and Rays. We have started to get more Bass reports out here as well. Fisherman fishing China Camp and Mc Nears Pier have reported the same. Frozen baits like Anchovies have yielded lots of action.
Big Tides: Captain Joel Say's to take advantage of these big tides this week. In addition you might want to use up all those sharp hooks you bought being that you might not be legally allowed to use them soon. There will be a lot of water moving and with that the fish will be biting.
Bait: We have plenty of live Grass and Ghost Shirmp. In addition we have Pile Worms and Mudsuckers. We have a limited supply of Bullheads and you can always call ahead to see what we have at that time.
Dave Hurley provides the best detailed fishing report for the greater Bay Area. Check it out and sign up:The Hurley Chronicles
Low Tides: We recommend that you do not try to boat into our slough right now unless it is high tide. The mud is pretty thick and if you can just stop by before you launch. We hate to see you guys mess up your engine kicking up mud on the bottom of a tide. Until they dredge you gotta drive here before you launch.
Joe Ormonde fished with a one day license today and caught himself a Skate. They fished at the mouth of the river near the power lines with Grass Shrimp. Javier Alvarez fished Blackpoint right under the 37 bridge this Monday and got his limit on Stripers. He fished the incoming tide with Bullheads and landed two Bass measuring 22 and 25 inches. Here is Valerie and her 20" Striper caught off the dock here at Leonard's. Score as of now Val, 1 and the rest of ya 0!
