Ever since I can remember, I have had the travel bug.
Perhaps I caught it in my early years, moving often as a little girl due to my father being transferred regularly by Union Carbide. At the tender age of 6 I had already moved four times and was starting school in Puerto Rico of all places. Technically, I should be fluent in Spanish ... however as I grew the languages of (England's) English, French and German captivated my interest and whatever Spanish I learned as a child quickly dissipated.

When a teenager, I read The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough, and swore to myself that I would live in Australia someday. Well, as life has it, the only Study Abroad Program which supported my dual Major (Mathematics and Computer Science) was located in London. That was the beginning of my love affair with England and eventually Scotland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Ireland.

I never left England after my Study Abroad Program ended...and eventually became an English/EU citizen, and lived for many subsequent years in Munich, Germany, where I became obsessed with the beauty of the "Alpine" language and culture.

Many years later, I found myself living in America again, and forming my own "niche" import business dubbed "Alpen Schatz" or "Alpine Treasures" to keep my love of Europe alive on a daily basis and to support the smaller companies and craftsmen who don't have the means nor knowhow to promote their crafts to the melting pot of their ethnicity in the rest of the world. I live and breath European culture and more than ever love, love, LOVE planning and taking trips to Europe AND sharing my insights with those who also share my passion.

On my Spring Euro Trip 2013, I will be in Europe for a month, beginning with my oldest roots living abroad, England...then moving onto Ireland ... then Switzerland, Austria and ending up in Munich...

Be sure to check my BLOG, where I am sharing my Itinerary and my recommendations for great and often hard to find Hotels and B&B's as well as restaurants and activities throughout my trip.

Note that my passion (if you could not tell) is fun, unique and culture-filled trips in Europe. Please feel free to EMAIL me should you like help in planning your own trip to Europe.

WESTMINSTER DOG SHOW 2013 RECAP

WOW! SPECTACULAR! WHAT AN EVENT!!!

Westminster 2013
Proud Pup with his Trophy!

Alpen Schatz had quite the time this year, having a booth in the same hall as the main rings of the 2013 Westminster Dog Show on Pier 92/94 in the heart of New York City. This was this year's venue where the best of the best of each AKC Breed were selected to compete for Champion in their Breed and then in their Group and eventually Best in Show in the evening at Madison Square Garden, NYC.

There were 25,000 spectators who visited the Show over two action packed days of this world revered event. A large number of which stopped by our Alpen Schatz booth, shopping for both Pet and People Alpine Treasures that we shipped from around the world to make this event that much more special.

We took lots of fun pictures which we have posted up on our FLICKR account. Click HERE to see a sneak peak of the show, our great customers and our booth in New York City.

And be sure to visit our BLOG with more pictures and info on the show!

As we all know, our own pup is and always will be our Champion and Best in Show in our homes and in our hearts.

Belly rubs to all our furry loved ones!

When travelling to Beaver Creek recently, I met the most delightful dog lover, Brenda Cuomo, while checking in at the Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa, in Avon, CO. She commented on Valentino and DaVinci, loving big dogs herself and owning even larger dogs than my own: a St Bernard and a Neufy.

She fell in love with their SWISS collars and as I happened to have inventory on me for the trunk shows I was doing, she bought one for each of her pups right there on the spot.

Later, she announced that she had done a write-up of our collars titled "Doggy Bling" on her own delightful BLOG, called Henrietta's Hippo! Check it out!

Thank you, Brenda, for thinking of Alpen Schatz and loving our pups!

MAYA IN HER NEW SPRING DIRNDL

Maya recently got her very own Alpen Schatz Dirndl which she will be wearing right off the bat for TWO school events: Immigration Day and Family Heritage Night to show off her Austrian heritage.

Alles Gute, Maya! You look wonderful!

Puca

Hi Mary Dawn -

Here is Pca, attending a Norwich Terrier's birthday party at an agility training center on the Upper East Side. She is sporting her Italian leather leash and harness from Alpen Schatz we got at the Westminster Dog Show in NYC recently.

Her name is Celtic for mischievous spirit and herald of winter. She is 8 years old and blind, the result of overbreeding at a puppy mill (toy fox terrier); we adopted her just before New Year's from the ASPCA. She is quite a character, and we are so happy to have her. We can hardly wait to also flaunt her new banana-strawberry leash (from Alpen Schatz) when we are next in the Keys.
