"LIONS & TIGERS & BEARS OH MY!"--A REPORT ON THE STRESS BUSTING EXERCISE FROM THE LAST ISSUE |
Lisa Dancinglight, a Marvelous Mondays subscriber, reports how she used her stress busting technique when she discovered a bear beating on the roof of her Colorado home. After getting rid of the bear, she still had to deal with the stress and trauma. So, she calmed herself by singing joyfully. Lisa is a concert pianist, an accomplished singer/songwriter, and voice coach. I invite you to view her website and listen to her beautiful music at http://lisadancinglight.com/.

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE (EQ) AND HUMOR/PLAYFULLNESS |
1. We have all experienced situations and conversations that are extremely tense. We know that the wrong word can inflame a situation, which sometimes leads to serious breakdowns in communications and in relationships.
2. On the other hand, a funny or playful response can cut the tension and even bring laughter.
|
OTHER BENEFITS OF USING HUMOR AND PLAYFULNESS IN DEVELOPING OUR EQ |
1. Confidence-Gives us a technique to confidently enter into a difficult conversation.
2. Stress Relief-Laughing helps us and others reduce stress by producing good chemical reactions in our brains.
3. Balance-Enables us to experience life's frustrations and annoyances by balancing them with humor and playfulness.
4. Creativity-Develops our creative skills by finding humor and playfulness in difficult situations, which then frees us up to experience new perspectives and possibilities.

EXERCISE |
I invite you this week to do the following:
1. Learn and practice some jokes.
2. Set aside some time to develop your playfulness and laughter skills. You can then draw on this when needed. For example:
- Play with animals
- Play with babies or young children
- Play with outgoing people
3. Find a playful activity that you can use when needed.
- Dancing [How about the famous "chicken dance"]
- Jumping
- Singing a song with a made up language
I look forward to hearing from you about how you used humor and playfulness. We will learn together.
