Strength in More than Numbers

With the graduation of the 2016 class this April, the ELUM community has grown to more than 1,000 strong. Not only is our ELUM community strong in numbers, we are also strong in the skills, talents, and experiences of our members. It is those skills, talents, and experiences that we rely on to assist us in a myriad of ways here at ELAM. We're always looking for ELUMs who are interested in giving back through giving their time.

If you've ever considered volunteering for ELAM, but weren't sure what you could offer or what was needed, the numerous opportunities we have available are all listed on our website, along with a brief description of each role. We also ask that you fill out an online form so that we know of your interest and can look to you when an opportunity becomes available.

Please contact us at elam@drexelmed.edu
at any time with any questions, and we thank you in advance for helping to make our community of remarkable women as strong as it can be.

Quote of the Day

Now is not the time to think of what you do not have. Think of what you can do with what there is.

Nobody loves meetings. Calls for Application, Nomination, Etc.

We received the following email from ELUM Sydney Evans:
I am Sydney Evans, a 2009 ELUM from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.  I am the PI of an NIH-funded R25 grant that supports a 10 week summer research experience for college students with an interest in oncology, radiation oncology and radiology research (PhD with or without another degree. )  We emphasize accepting minority students, students from financially challenged homes (PELL grant recipients), and women. As part of this program we have a research day at the end of the program (August 4th or 5th) an it includes a speaker.
I am looking to invite an ELUM to speak about their path into science/medicine, especially if your path has been challenged by your race, gender, financial means, etc.   Most former speakers have interwoven their life experiences with their science, providing advise and guidance for these young people.
