Articles of Note
From the Academy for Academic Leadership, Leadership Article Recommendations for March 2016:
The New York Times, February 25, 2016:
While we live in a "golden age of understanding personal productivity," the scrutiny that we apply to our individual performance optimization is rarely applied to teams. With Project Aristotle, Google sought to change that-and what they found may surprise you. Contrary to conventional wisdom, the highest-performing teams are not necessarily composed of an organization's best and brightest. Instead, there are subtler, social dynamics at play determining whether or not a team will be effective.
Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions, March 28, 2016:
This report examines the alarming lack of diversity in both racial composition and institutional representation for study abroad, noting that students of color account for less than 25% of those who engage in such opportunities.
[Note that ELAM staff member Christel Perkins is co-author on this study.]
Fast Company, March 30, 2016:
"From corporate boardrooms to the halls of Congress, from universities to the courts, from religious institutions to philanthropic organizations, men are simply much more likely than women to be leaders." This, according to a new report from the American Association of University Women (AAUW).
This isn't news to anyone who has been paying attention, but this new study does bring the persistence and complexity of such underrepresentation into more focus.
Inside Higher Ed, March 31, 2016:
Raising awareness of them and serving as models for other people is crucial for women in leadership positions in academe, writes Nichola D. Gutgold.
The Chronicle of Higher Education, Academe Today, April 4, 2016:
Brokering a better job offer is full of dangers and pitfalls for women that men don't have to face.
The Chronicle of Higher Education, Academe Today, April 8, 2016:

Inside Higher Ed, April 6, 2016:
Gerrymandering is a big topic again this election season, but what about gendermandering? In today's Academic Minute, Baldwin Wallace University's Barbara Palmer details how a gerrymandered district might also decide which sex is elected as well as which party.
