Not sure what an "App Kit" is? Kobo has designed a way of providing stores with dedicated tracking links for downloads of the Kobo Reading App, so now your customers who read eBooks other than on eReaders can purchase books through smartphones, computers, and tablets, and have them credited to your store.

The App Kit includes a poster and shelftalker that promote the Kobo Reading App to your customers. Kobo is shipping the printed materials directly to your store via UPS, beginning on November 14. In addition, online banners, training materials, product images, as well as the design files for the poster and shelftalker, are posted in the Kobo section of Designs and Downloads, under the "Kobo App Kit" heading.

The Kobo App Kit materials all promote a dedicated landing page, www.kobo.com/indieapp*, where customers input a zip code and select a local bookstore to affiliate with.

*Note-- The link provided is not yet live, however, it will likely be available as early as next week.  Please do not post any banners or other designs until the app page is live.

For a complete overview of how the Kobo App Kit will affiliate to your store, please review the "ABA Partner App Download Flow" PDF in the Kobo section of Designs and Downloads.

IMPORTANT:
See the "Constructing Kobo App Links" PDF in Designs and Downloads to find your store and update your landing pages to ensure that all customer app downloads are being linked to your store.

According to Kobo, reasons to promote the Kobo App at your bookstore include:
  • App are customers much easier/cheaper to acquire
  • 7-10% of app users migrate to eReader/tablet devices
  • App users spend 65% what device customers do by end of consumers lifetime
  • ValueDevice + app customers spend 23% more than device-only customers
Stores that are using the Kobo counter display will also be getting a "refresh kit" along with the App Kit. Both kits will be shipping from Kobo beginning Nov. 14.

The refresh materials will create a new generic display, with stickers to cover out-of-date content, and new interchangeable takeaway cards that promote the new and existing Kobo devices.  Updates to the display include:
  • Inclusion of the Kobo Content Message to encourage customers to support their local book store.
  • Inclusion of the Kobo App Message to encourage customers to try eReading while supporting their local book store with the Kobo App.

The refresh kit will contain the following:

Counter Display Stickers

  • New Header Card
  • Device Overview Card
  • Blank Cards

Takeaway Cards (10 of each)

  • Kobo Glo
  • Kobo Aura HD
  • Kobo Aura
  • Kobo Arc 7
  • Kobo Content Card
  • Kobo App Card

Since the migration to the new Kobo OneStore, some of you may have noticed that your store logo may only appear intermittently.  Keep in mind, while your logo may not appear, as long as the initial link included affiliate tracking, any new accounts will be credited to your store.

Over the past month, we have coordinated with Kobo technical support in an attempt to resolve the issue.  They have diagnosed the problem, and have suggested linking to
For example:
If your affiliate ID was ABA-12345, the new link would be constructed as follows:
On the old method, it would have been the following:    http://www.kobobooks.com?utm_medium=web&utm_source=ABA-12345

When constructing your link, keep ?utm_medium=web&utm_source= at the end of the URL and replace 'ABA-12345' with your store's ID.

Just to clarify, you will still receive credit for accounts on www.kobobooks.com, but banners are more likely to be present when linking to store.kobobooks.com.

If you have any questions about linking, please email [email protected].
