Celebrate Our Health System
on Recognition Day

Next Tuesday, Jan. 24, is Recognition Day, which commemorates the founding of the congregation of the Sisters of Bon Secours in Paris in 1824. On this date, the first 12 Sisters of Bon Secours professed their vows in the Chapel of Our Lady of Saint-Sulpice Church.

Today, we pause to remember the dedication of the first Sisters of Bon Secours to minister and comfort those who were sick and dying in their homes and to celebrate and give thanks for our co-workers in ministry who continue this wonderful commitment.

As in the past, Recognition Day celebrations are coordinated by Human Resources Leaders and Mission Leaders. Recognition Day has three main components: a prayer service, a moment of recognition and a meal or other appropriate celebration.

anchor_01Kronos Timekeeper Class Required

Are you a Kronos timekeeper? Bon Secours requires that you complete a new online course, a move designed to reduce errors, which in turn minimizes payroll problems and assures employees receive the pay that is due to them.

The course, available in HealthStream, must be completed by Jan. 31. Here's what you need to know:

green bulletTo find the class, go to Healthstream on IRIS, look for the Catalog and search for "BSHSI Kronos for New Timekeepers." Then click on Enroll.
green bulletThis is a basic class to be used by all Bon Secours users so the information presented may not specifically address each local system. For advanced questions, contact your payroll department.
green bulletThe course will take from 2 to 2 1/2 hours to complete. However, it does not have to be completed in one session. The nine modules can be stopped at any point along the way.
green bulletEach user must pass an assessment at the end of the course with a score of 80 percent.
green bulletAll new timekeepers will be required to take this course before they can receive their Kronos login.

Look for a recent Health Stream module for Bon Secours Virginia employees on this important topic.

anchor_02January Is National Human
Trafficking Awareness Month

Human trafficking occurs when force, fraud or coercion is used to control another person for the purpose of engaging in forced labor or commercial open handcuffs sexual exploitation. As health care providers, we have a responsibility to identify and combat this growing problem.

Bon Secours Virginia embraces a collaborative approach to combat human trafficking, working closely with federal and local law enforcement agencies, commonwealth's attorneys, victim witness programs, child protective services agencies and advocacy programs throughout the Commonwealth.

Human trafficking like other forms of violence and abuse, is a health care issue.

green bullet1 in 4 victims will come in contact with a health care provider while being trafficked. Yet, these individuals are not being identified by health care providers.
green bulletPatients may not recognize themselves as victims or they may be fearful to come forward.
green bulletRed flags may not be obvious. Health care providers should pay attention to the feeling that something is just not right.
green bulletProfessionals working in the health care setting must be on the lookout for signs of human trafficking.
