Bon Secours Community Hospice House Reflects Our Mission

November is National Home Care and Hospice Month and National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. At Bon Secours, Home Care and Hospice have been an integral part of our mission since 1824, when the first 12 Sisters of Bon Secours in Paris began caring for the sick and dying in their homes.

During the past year, the scope of our mission has expanded with the opening of the Community Hospice House, central Virginia's only freestanding hospice facility. It allows Bon Secours to extend the continuum of care we provide our patients and their families, and to collaborate with other health systems, home care companies and organizations. Our holistic care focuses on the patient, caregivers and families.

Photos of the Hospice House

The Community Hospice House treats critically ill hospice patients in a warm and inviting home-like setting with an intensive team approach to care. Our Bon Secours Hospice team of physicians, nurses, social workers, bereavement counselors, chaplains and volunteers allows patients and their families to celebrate the end of life with love and the kind of compassion exemplified by the Sisters of Bon Secours.

Earn Money for Points You Earn Through Nov. 30

Be-Your-Best-graphic

Have you gotten started yet on
BonSecoursBeYourBest.com?

Nov. 30 is the end of the first quarter when you can turn the points you have earned into Incentive dollars. If you are covered by a Bon Secours Medical Plan, every point you earn equals $1 and will be deposited into a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) for you to use to cover medical expenses.

To qualify for the Incentive payout you must first complete three steps: complete your Health and Well-being Assessment, complete your biometric screening, and review your results with an advisor from U.S. Preventive Medicine (USPM).

And, every employee who completes these three steps by November 30 ---  even those not covered by a Bon Secours Medical Plan ---  will be entered into a drawing where 30 lucky employees will be selected to win $300 in cash. The drawing will be held Jan. 20.

Click here for the Quick Start guide with more details on how to get started. If you have any questions about the website, please contact USPM at (866) 713-3989, weekdays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., or via email at MemberCare@USPM.com.

Haven't Heard from Your Advisor?

Given the exceptionally strong employee response to BonSecoursBeYourBest.com, many employees have completed the first two required steps but are still waiting to hear from their U.S. Preventive Medicine health and well-being advisor to complete the required first three steps.

If you complete your biometrics and Health and Well-being Assessment (HWA) by Nov. 30, but aren't contacted to schedule an advisor call by that date, watch for an email from USPM in December that it's time to call and chat with an advisor.

As long as you complete your call by Dec. 31, you will receive your Incentive dollars in early January and still be eligible for the first cash drawing.

Thanksgiving is an odd holiday. It is uniquely American, caught chronologically, culturally and spiritually between the secularism of the Fourth of July and the spiritualism of December's Christmas and Hanukkah celebrations.

Amid the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it gives us an opportunity to say thank you, in some way, for the gifts of family, security and freedom we so often take for granted.

In approximately 700 BCE, the prophet Micah wrote, "With what shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before God on high?" (6:6). His answer: "What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" (6:8).

For me, Micah means walking one day at a time, cherishing the blessings and gifts and even the sorrows and pain I receive each day, and saying thank you often. For the simplicity of a blue sky, for the presence of loved ones, for being alive and aware in each moment.

May you have a blessed Thanksgiving.

Values in Action logoBon Secours Virginia's Values in Action program offers an opportunity for employees to help their colleagues in need feel the hope and spirit of the season.

Employees, individually or as a group, can sign up to sponsor a family. And if you ---  or a coworker ---  need a little help this year, we can make that happen.
