About the New Military Medics and Corpsman Program
A new program, approved by the Virginia General Assembly and the only such program in the country, allows service members with specialized training an opportunity for employment and a pathway to licensure and long-term medical careers. Bon Secours Virginia is one of six health care systems participating in the pilot program.

Read about Bon Secours in HRPulse Magazine (ASHHRA Publication) --- Everyone Wins When Healthcare Hires Veterans, Summer 2016.

"The main benefit of the program is that the men and women who are serving our country as medics and corpsmen can extend their specialized skills by working at Bon Secours," said Paul Junod, Human Resources director, Bon Secours Virginia. "These men and women are uniquely qualified to perform various functions, but in the past when they come home from deployment or leave the services, their skills and credentials from the military didn't carry over to work in the private sector. This program is changing that while helping us fill important job functions."
Veterans Day is Nov. 11. Please take some time to thank those who have served our country and attend a service at one of our facilities.

Why I Give Blood
Tracey Roots remembers sitting in a hospital, feeling helpless while her older sister lay in the Intensive Care Unit in a sickle cell anemia crisis. A nationwide search was underway to find compatible blood.
"Time was ticking to get blood. It was because of someone else's donation that she is still living," said Roots, administrative assistant for Richmond Community Hospital's administration. Roots' sister
"I want to make a difference in other people's lives, like others have done for my sister."
| |
was diagnosed with sickle cell when she was just 9 months old and wasn't expected to live to be 18. Today, she is "a miracle," doing relatively well at age 55.
Though there have been times when Roots could not donate due to a low iron count, she began taking iron supplements and now donates about four times a year.
