Reflecting on Gratitude

Alex Garvey How often do we stop to say "thank you"? As people of faith, we journey through life, sharing our expedition with family and friends. However, the only one who has been present with us this entire pathway has been, and will be, God.

It's the promise of life. The "I Am" stays with us ---  always. While we are often only aware of a loving God in time of crises, God remains patient and present, waiting for us to call upon His sacred name. For this, we should remain ever grateful.

Let us gain insight from the words of a Dominican Mystic, Meister Eckhart, who wrote in the 13th century: "If the only prayer you ever say is 'Thank You'...that will suffice."

Thank you.

--- Alex Garvey, Vice President of Mission and Ethics

Uses New Radiation Therapy

The Cancer Institute at DePaul recently treated its first patient successfully with AccuBoost®, a new, noninvasive procedure for women with early stage breast cancer. The Cancer Institute is the only program in Hampton Roads to offer this technology, which prevents disease reoccurrence using this mammography-guided, noninvasive form of brachytherapy radiation treatment that is employed as a final or boost radiation dose directed to the tumor cavity.
