Every family should have a happy holiday season, but sometimes, unforeseen circumstances make it difficult. Unemployment, illness or unexpected emergencies can strain a family's finances.

Bon Secours Virginia's Values in Action program brings employees who are struggling during the holiday season together with employees who want to give help. This annual, confidential program helps employee families in Richmond and Hampton Roads enjoy a more special Christmas.

In 2014, Bon Secours Virginia's Values in Action helped 134 families have a happier holiday. Learn more about this special program.

Get a Healthier Start to 2016

weight loss Maintain, Don't Gain, a free eight-week challenge, encourages employees to maintain or lose weight throughout the holiday season is available to all Bon Secours Virginia employees.

Maintain, Don't Gain runs Nov. 16 to Jan. 8. Participants will receive tips and challenges to help motivate them to a healthier start for the new year. All program information is self-reported through the Motivation Alliance at www.bonsecourswellness.com. In addition, there will be five prize drawings.

To register, please email BSV-EmployeeWellness@bshsi.org with your first and last name and Lawson number by Nov. 13. Additional program details will be emailed to participants prior to the start of the program.

This four-week program teaches parents to correct negative behavior in children 2 to 12 years old, while encouraging positive behavior. Free classes begin Nov. 23 at Maryview Medical Center. Learn more.

Cindy Reynolds, CEO for Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation and senior vice president and chief development officer for the Bon Secours Virginia Foundations, represented our health system at the Working Mother's 100 Best Companies recognition event last month.

Congratulations to all Bon Secours Virginia's working mothers.

This is the 17th year in a row that Bon Secours has earned the honor that examines companies' attention to women in management, child care, flexibility and family friendly resources.

snowflake As winter approaches, now is the time to find out about your department's policy on reporting to work in inclement weather. All Bon Secours Virginia employees are expected to have a reliable way to meet their schedule and patient obligations, even with snow on the ground.

Policies can vary from hospital to hospital and within different departments, so it's important to understand your procedure and make plans in advance.

Remember that our Family Centers in Richmond offer emergency child care. Call the center nearest you for more information.

You Can Quit. Sign up by Nov. 10
for FreshStart.

No Smoking Though the harmful effects of smoking and tobacco products are widely known, there are still nearly 42 million Americans who use tobacco products. Bon Secours can help you quit.

Employee Wellness offers FreshStart, the American Cancer Society's tobacco cessation support program ---  one of the most effective methods to help guide your success. The program consists of four, one-hour webinars held once a week. The program begins on Nov. 17, and employees are encouraged to participate in the Great American Smokeout on Nov. 19.

Infection Control Practitioners Connect and Learn at Conference

More than a dozen Bon Secours infection control practitioners attended the 41st Annual APIC-Virginia Educational Conference in Richmond earlier this month. With about 175 members, APIC-Va. is the state chapter of the national APIC organization. Bon Secours Virginia's own Marsha Kemp, Memorial Regional Medical Center, is currently the Virginia chapter's president and Sue Moeslein, Mary Immaculate Hospital, is president-elect.

with High School

Bon Secours In Motion Sports Medicine will partner with Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School in Virginia Beach to provide training services to its athletic department. At the nearby In Motion hub, students will have access to medical services from Dr. Jocelyn Ricasa, physical therapy and Bon Secours experts in sports performance, nutrition, wellness and fitness.
