Caring for the Whole Family We continue to celebrate National Work & Family Month, thinking about the children and grandchildren in our lives and our aging loved ones. Bon Secours Virginia has been honored with numerous "Best Places to Work" awards, in large part due to our family-friendly culture. We believe in offering resources for child care. You may not have children of your own, but you recognize how important it is for your colleagues to have reliable child care. Bon Secours Richmond offers three on-site Family Centers for employee children and grandchildren, as well as discounted child care for employees at our other facilities. Also, we offer backup care when emergencies, such as snow days, arise. Check our Benefits Books for Richmond and Hampton Roads for a list of parenting resources. When children are older, many attend our summer camps and volunteer in our hospitals. And each year, many receive college scholarships. Many employees also are caring for elderly family members, which can be both emotionally and financially taxing. We offer home care assistance and our GrandPartners intergenerational program. Our flexible scheduling options can help you manage your family responsibilities, and our Employee Assistance Program is a confidential, free resource for counseling, resources and stress management. |

Two Bon Secours Virginia employees recently were honored by regional publications for their contributions to the community at a young age.

Think About Mindful Eating
Studies show that when we eat while multitasking and rush through meals we are more likely to eat more and stray from our meal plans. However, research participants who practiced mindful eating ate less, made better food choices and reported higher satisfaction levels with their meals.
Learn more about Mindful Eating at the Employee Assistance Program's new webinar, "Building Resiliency through Your Relationship with Food," Nov. 11 at noon. Learn more and register.

Celebrating Pastoral Care Week
Pastoral Care Week, Oct. 25-30, celebrates those who provide spiritual counseling to others. It gives opportunities for organizations and institutions of all kinds and types to recognize the spiritual caregivers in their midst and the ministry caregivers provide.
"As chaplains, our spiritual care interventions focus on embracing and affirming the sacred story of each patient. As the chaplain credo says, we believe 'each person is worth the time; each story is worth the hearing; each visit is an opportunity.' We do more than pray. Being mindfully and non-judgmentally present with others, we help patients tell their sacred stories of life and walk with them to discover and live out of what gives them meaning in life."
----- Rev. Robert G. Shenk, Lead Chaplain Projects and Research, St. Mary's Hospital

Lunching and Learning

There, they heard updates about our health system and were encouraged to ask questions. These lunches are one of many ways Ardabell connects with employees. She encourages them to send questions about any aspect of our health care ministry at AskToni@bshsi.org. |
