Building Smiles for a Special Girl
Volunteers from Bon Secours and Bon Secours In Motion (and their families) teamed with the Roc Solid Foundation on Aug. 15 to build a play set for 2-year-old Lauren Robey, who was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year. Lauren's father, Mike Robey, works in IT for ConnectCare for Bon Secours Hampton Roads.
Thanks to generous donations and a strong team of volunteers, Lauren and her siblings will have a great place to play while she battles the disease.

Community Hospice House Ready to Welcome Patients, Families

Construction of the Bon Secours Community Hospice House is complete, and the facility will welcome its first patients this fall. The 16-bed house is the only freestanding hospice facility in Central Virginia.

 Just Six Days Left to Earn 2015 Wellness Incentives
What would you do with $900?
Monday, Aug. 31, is your last chance to earn your 2015 Wellness Incentives. If you are currently covered by a 2015 Bon Secours Medical Plan, you are eligible to earn up to $900.
The wellness dollars will be deposited in a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) for you to spend on qualified health expenses for you and family members who are tax dependents. Your HRA account balance will roll over to use for FY2016 expenses, too.

Women's Center Earns National Accreditation

The Millie Lancaster Women's Center at the Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View recently earned accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. This distinction is awarded to health care facilities that achieve the highest standards of care for patients with diseases of the breast.

A Playground for All Players

The Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Camp 2015 season has ended, but the team's commitment to the community lives on. Before the team left town, Redskins Charitable Foundation officials joined Bon Secours representatives to break ground for the first Play 60 playground in Richmond's East End.

They Can Bike

Thanks to the support of Bon Secours Richmond Hope Therapy, the Bon Secours Richmond Healthcare Foundation and more than 70 volunteers, Bon Secours organized the iCan Bike program earlier this month.
During the week-long program, 34 campers with special needs learned to ride regular bicycles --- an activity that helps improve their confidence, self-esteem, social interactions with peers, and physical fitness.

Bon Secours' Good Help Reaches Across the World
Our health system's mission extends far beyond the walls of our facilities. We are committed to helping others learn to be caregivers.
Recently, Bon Secours Health System Inc. donated $50,000 to help educate nurses at the Catholic Health Training Institute (CHTI) in South Sudan.

"The CHTI is an important institute, not only for training health professionals, but also for helping a new generation look beyond ethnic differences to build a united country. It is helping to shape this generation of health care professionals committed to the respect for the dignity of each person and a determination to live in peace," wrote Sr. Joan Mumaw, IHM, U.S. regional development director of Solidarity with South Sudan.

Adults learn how to describe symptoms to a doctor, read and understand medical instructions, and to know when to use urgent care versus the emergency department.
