Incentive or Not, She's a PHA Fan
Sondra Simmons, a lab send-out processor at Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital, has a secret weapon: the PHA.
Though she isn't on the Bon Secours Medical Plan --- instead getting insurance through her husband's job --- she's an enthusiastic supporter of the annual Personal Health Assessment.
"I do the PHA because it feels like a fun game to me each year, comparing my totals in the Master of Change section from year to year, as well as seeing how many points and what level I can get myself to."
She can monitor her cholesterol and A1C levels, log food and fitness, and spot any issues she might need to address. Simmons also enjoys encouraging colleagues via the Motivation Alliance site and helping new employees get started with their PHAs. The PHA, she says, keeps her motivated to stay in shape and to challenge herself. "I want to see how far I can go."

Question: I'm trying to quit smoking, but I just don't know where to begin. Can you point me in the right direction?
Answer: Congratulations on taking the first step to changing your life!
Bon Secours' Employee Wellness Department has teamed up with the American Cancer Society to offer FreshStart, and it's completely free! FreshStart helps employees plan a successful quit attempt by providing essential information, skills for coping with cravings and group support. The sessions are a month long, and the group meets once a week via telephone.
