Congratulations, School at Work Grads!

Bon Secours Richmond congratulates the School at Work Class of 2015!

The six-month program prepares entry-level employees for more advanced studies and a career in health care. Students refreshed essential skills such as computers, reading, writing and workplace communications, and then progressed to medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, medical ethics, organizational skills and stress management.

Graduates routinely move up within the organization, and many pursue nursing and other medical degrees. This year's graduates include:

Gail Hubert ICD-10 Helps Tell
Patient Stories

Many employees are spending dozens of hours preparing for the introduction of ICD-10 on Oct. 1. Better documentation helps our health system in many ways, including quality metrics, financial compensation and our mission of providing good care.

"ICD-10 is about being more specific. It's nothing new for us, just a little bit extra. We've done many hours of training and are helping educate physicians and others who need to know. With ICD-10, we're more accurately telling the patient's story."

Heart Failure

Can you reverse heart failure? In some cases, yes. Dr. William Callaghan, a cardiologist at Bon Secours Cardiovascular Specialists in Hampton Roads, explains how it can be possible.

"Heart failure can be reversed if you can identify one of the underlying causes that's reversible," said Callaghan. "The main cause for heart failure in this country is from ischemic heart disease (or blockages in the arteries of the heart.)" Learn more in the Bon Secours 757 blog.

Do You Use IS Resources at Home?

If you access Bon Secours Information Services resources while at home or outside of a Bon Secours facility, you will be affected by an important change.

When you access IS resources off the Bon Secours network, you will need a code to log on. Two-factor authentication is an extra layer of security that requires not only a username and password but also a dynamic (changing) six-digit code. Using a username and password together with a dynamic six-digit code makes it harder for potential intruders to gain unauthorized access.
