Bon Secours Virginia Employee Wellness Wins Game Changer Award

The Virginia Center for Health Innovation bestowed its prestigious 2015 Game Changer award in Employee Health on Bon Secours Virginia last Thursday during the Virginia Chamber of Commerce's health care conference in Richmond.
"Today we celebrate those Virginia employers that are leading the way by implementing outstanding employee health strategies. " said Beth Bortz, president and CEO of the Virginia Center for Health Innovation. Bon Secours was recognized for our innovative programs that motivate, educate, and engage our employees in a culture of health.

CEO Featured in Panel Discussion
Peter J. Bernard, CEO of Bon Secours Virginia, served as a panelist for a discussion of the sweeping changes and opportunities facing the health care industry at the 2015 Virginia Health Care Conference in Richmond last week. Bernard and other CEOs said that without Medicaid expansion, hospitals in Virginia face severe challenges to provide funding sources for patients with little or no health insurance. Read more.

Celebrating our Project SEARCH Graduates
| Twenty-five students, including these from Memorial Regional Medical Center, will graduate from Project SEARCH at four Bon Secours Virginia facilities. |
This month, Bon Secours Virginia Health System will recognize 25 Virginia high school seniors with autism spectrum disorders and/or intellectual disabilities for their completion of Project SEARCH, a national school-to-work program at four Bon Secours facilities across Central Virginia and in Portsmouth. Project SEARCH provides hands-on training to students with disabilities through internships at health care facilities and other businesses, with a goal of gaining employment upon completion. Bon Secours Virginia is the only Project SEARCH program also participating in clinical research. Learn more.

Cancer Institute Launches New Program
 The Bon Secours Cancer Institute at DePaul now offers stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). The new technology is available using the recently acquired TrueBeam™ STx radiation therapy system. This nonsurgical procedure delivers very high doses of precisely targeted radiation. The result: fewer treatments for patients as compared with traditional radiation therapy and less radiation dose to surrounding tissue. Learn more. |

Care-A-Van Program Honored
The Virginia Health Care Foundation recently honored Bon Secours' Care-A-Van program with the Wells Fargo Achievement Award at the 2015 Heroes in Health Care awards. Read more. The award includes a $10,000 donation from Wells Fargo.

The Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation and the Bon Secours Hampton Roads Foundations celebrated their donors, many of whom are employees, with an evening of fun at the Fleur-de-Lis Recognition Event on April 22 and May 19, respectively. Fleur-de-Lis recognizes donors who make cumulative annual leadership gifts of $1,000 or more to the Foundations.

Physician Recognized for Contributions in Orthopaedics
Dr. Wilford K. Gibson, sports medicine surgeon at Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists, received the Virginia Orthopaedic Society Career Award at the organization's annual meeting this spring. The prestigious award is given to an orthopaedic surgeon for significant contributions to the field of orthopaedics and noteworthy achievements over a career of service to patients in Virginia.

Bereavement Center to Commemorate World Pet Memorial Day
Many people consider their animals to be part of their family. Bon Secours Hampton Roads Bereavement Center will honor and remember beloved pets as part of World Pet Memorial Day. The event will take place this evening at 6 p.m. at the exercise trail at Mary Immaculate Hospital. For more information, call 757-947-3420.
