Comparatively Speaking.
Whither Americans and unplanned pregnancy? It goes something like this: Americans underestimate the percentage of pregnancies in the U.S. that are unplanned; they mistakenly view unplanned pregnancy as primarily a problem for teens; they strongly favor the goal of reducing unplanned pregnancies; and they view unplanned pregnancy as important compared to other pressing issues.
The latest in our monthly Survey Says series has all the details. Find it here and feel free to download the separate images to use in presentations or social media.
From the Department of Friendly Reminders.
Families Talking Together (FTT) is a program designed to give parents the skills they need to effectively talk to their children about sex and contraception. The program-developed by Dr. Vincent Guilamo-Ramos at New York University's Silver School of Social Work, Center for Latino Adolescent and Family Health-was developed specifically for Latino and African-American families for delivery in both a health care setting and a community-based setting.
Recently the U.S. Department of Health and Human services officially added FTT and three other programs to its list of 35 interventions with evidence of success in helping teens delay sex, improve contraceptive use, and/or avoid teen pregnancy and childbearing.
