Requiem Eucharist Celebrating the Life of 
Bishop Edmond L. Browning

A Requiem Eucharist (with the service of Committal) will be celebrated in thanksgiving for the life of the Right Reverend Edmond L. Browning, 2nd Bishop of the Diocese of Hawaiʻi and 24th Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 11:00 AM, in the Cathedral of St. Andrew, Honolulu. There will be no visitation prior to the Eucharist. People will have the opportunity to greet the family after the service of Committal.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in thanksgiving for Bishop Browning's life and ministry be made to:

Education Day and the 
48th Annual Meeting of Convention
October 28 - 29, 2016
Education Day and the 48th Annual Meeting of Convention of the Episcopal Church in Hawai'i, will be taking place on Friday and Saturday, October 28 and 29, at The Cathedral of St. Andrew in Honolulu. Attendees have an opportunity to save by registering early!

EDUCATION DAY
An Education Day open to all in the Diocese will take place on Friday, October 28, featuring guest speaker, the Rev. Gay Clark Jennings, President of the House of Deputies, and the first woman to hold this position. Register and pay by the following dates and save on the registration fee:
  • $30 per person - by Wednesday, September 14 
  • $35 per person - by Friday, October 7
  • $40 per person - after October 7
CONVENTION EUCHARIST & PUPU HOUR
Education day will be followed by the Convention's Opening Eucharist at 4:00 PM, in The Cathedral, and celebratory pupu hour. Registration is required for these events.  There is a fee of $10 per person to attend the pupu hour. Deadline to register and pay is Wednesday, October 5.  

ANNUAL MEETING OF CONVENTION
On Saturday, October 29, the Annual Meeting will begin promptly at 8:45 AM.  Please take note of the following registration and payment schedule to save:
  • $70 per person - by Wednesday, September 14
  • $85 per person - by Friday, October 7
  • $100 per person - after October 7

Diocese of Hawai'i Annual Clergy Retreat

This year's annual Clergy Retreat will be held on August 28 - 30, 2016, at Camp Mokule'ia.  Cost for the retreat is $80 resident (staying at the Camp), or, $50 commuter (driving there each day). Scholarship assistance is available upon request to the Bishop. Stewardship University 2016: Garnering Resources for Ministry Now and for the Future
This year's Stewardship University workshop will be taking place on Friday, August 5 (for clergy) and on Saturday, August 6 (for both clergy and lay persons). This event will take place at The Parish of St. Clement's Parish Hall in Honolulu, from 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM on both days.

Stewardship University will be conducted by The Rev. Cn. Timothy M. Dombek, Canon for Stewardship and Planned Giving for the Diocese of Arizona. Nationally known for stewardship development, Dombek will delve into topics such as "How To Talk About Money" and "Year-Round Stewardship That You Can Do," which will help participants to build up the stewardship programs they already have in place.  He is the author of Making the Annual Pledge Drive Obsolete, published earlier in 2014.  You can view a copy of the event flyer HERE.

Clergy and lay leaders are encouraged to sign up as teams to strengthen their stewardship programs. Participants will gain a common understanding of stewardship possibilities and reap the benefits all year long!  

The workshops are free of charge and includes lunch. Airfare stipends are available for neighbor island clergy and one (1) lay person approved by the clergy or priest-in-charge.

The ordination of the Rev. Dcn. John A. Hauʻoli Tomoso, transitional Deacon, to the Priesthood, God willing and the People consenting, will take place on Saturday, July 30, beginning at 2:00 PM, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Wailuku, Maui, with the Rt. Rev. Robert L. Fitzpatrick presiding. A joyous and thankful reception will follow. All are welcome!  Clergy are invited to vest, red stoles.

There will be a Godly Play Core Training at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Kailua, August 12-14, 2016, led by Godly Play Foundation Trainer, Jenny Wallace.  It is open to all those interested in Godly Play, first-time storytellers, and as a refresher for those who have taken a training in the past. This will be the last training in 2016.

Ministering to Suicidal  Desperation

A one-day workshop for leaders of faith communities, chaplains, therapists and others who are interested in learning more about how to prevent suicide, will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016, from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, at the Higashi Hongwanji Mission Buddhist Temple in Honolulu, located at 1685 Alaneo Street.  Cost for the workshop is $20 and includes lunch.  For more information, download the informational brochure HERE.  To register, you may download a mail-in form HERE, or register online HERE. Hawaiian-Language Book of Common Prayer Available for Purchase

In 2012, the Episcopal Church in Hawai'i celebrated its sesquicentennial, and limited edition reprints of the Hawaiian-language Book of Common Prayer were issued as part of the celebration.  These books are now available for purchase and can be ordered online.

Cloth-bound in red with gold foil stamping, this attractive Hawaiian-Language BCP contains over 400 pages of translated biblical scripture, liturgical prayers, and orders service, including King Kamehameha IV's Preface.

King Kamehameha IV translated the Book of Common Prayer into Hawaiian language as an act of personal piety and Christian devotion.  His translation remains a milestone in Hawaiian literature and a valuable resource for anyone studying the language.
