What's the Difference between the E-News and E-Chronicle?
The E-News comes out twice a month, usually the closest business day to the 1st and 16th. It contains announcements for upcoming events and other important information that needs to get out. The E-Chronicle, on the other hand, has less urgency. It comes out every other month, and reports on events that have already taken place. It may also feature special interest stories and reflections from folks around the Diocese. We're here to help you spread the word about any events you have coming up (E-News), and also sharing the results with others in the Diocese (E-Chronicle). Send over your fliers, notices, photos and stories... you never know whose life you could impact or inspire!

Bishop's Online Bible Study Continues with Audio
 If you haven't already checked it out, be sure to visit the Bishop's Bible Study page on the diocesan website to follow his yearlong plan that started on December 1, 2013, the beginning of Advent. Update on the Diocesan Mutual Ministry Review
One realization from the recent Diocesan Mutual Ministry Review was that "the Diocese" continues to be a puzzle to many. Responses ranged from a lack of understanding of what the Diocese is -- to no interaction with the Diocese -- to thinking that the Office of the Bishop is the Diocese. As the Standing Committee wrapped up the Mutual Ministry Review, it was decided that a presentation should be created to better explain the roles, responsibilities and support of the Diocese. And, that this presentation be made at all congregations' annual meetings to be held in January 2014. To that end, a video presentation is being created that will share this information. All churches will be asked to show the video at their annual meetings in January. After seeing it, we hope everyone will gain a good understanding of what the Diocese is, how it works, and who supports it. Churches will be receiving additional information in the coming weeks.

The Pacific Islander Ministry presents: 
The Episcopal Diocese of Hawai'i's Pacific Islander Ministry will be presenting a Christmas Concert, "The Voice of the Pacific", in the distinct Polynesian/Micronesian style. The concert takes place on Monday, December 23, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, Honolulu, and will feature the youth and Sunday school of St. Elizabeth's, plus eight other churches from around the Kalihi-Palama area. Applications for EYE'14 Now Being Accepted
Deadline to apply is this Friday, December 20, 2013
 The Triennial Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) will be taking place July 9-16, 2014, at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, and the Diocese of Hawai'i will be putting together a delegation of 24 high school youth to attend the Episcopal Church's largest and most anticipated youth event.
All Episcopal youth in the Diocese that are in grades 9 - 12 during the 2013-14 school year are eligible to apply. Currently, the estimated cost to attend will be $1,500 - $2,000 per person that includes air travel, lodging and most meals. The Diocese is planning to cover a small portion.

Daughters of the King Installation Assembly
The Board of the Hawai'i Diocesan Assembly of the Order of the Daughters of the King (DOK) will install the officers of the Diocesan Assembly Board, on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Christ Gathering Place during the 8:00 am service at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 98-939 Moanalua Road in Aiea.
The Right Reverend Bishop Robert Fitzpatrick will be the celebrant. The Daughters of the King's Assembly Council Board are: Luella Windisch, President; Kala Holden, Vice President; Vicki Millard, Secretary/Treasurer; Cynthia Carson, Daughters at Large (DAL) chair; Shauna Jones, President of St. Nicholas DOK chapter.

Presiding Bishop's Christmas Message 2013
For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
Isaiah pronounces these words to a people who remember the yoke of slavery laid on their shoulders. They've been waiting for this child, whose birth transforms that yoke into a mantle of authority. They are promised that this authority will continue to grow as the peaceable commonwealth is established - with justice and righteousness for all, and for ever.
This promise is spoken anew to people in every age, to those who have lived under oppression or in dark depression, to the hungry and ill and imprisoned. The birth we celebrate offers hope, in Word made flesh, who comes among us to heal and walk this way with us. The mantle of authority on his shoulders begins in the swaddling clothes of a child born in the humblest of circumstances. Yet that authority is recognized even by foreigners from far away. That mantle of authority does continue to grow, through a life offered for others, raised into new life, and passed on to new generations of fleshly God-bearers. Wherever justice and righteousness is done, that authority is growing, borne on the shoulders of the Prince of Peace.
He comes again, bearing the grace of the One whose image he wears in flesh. Seek him, sing his new song, declare his glory, and tell out the good news to all the nations: God reigns, and he is coming bearing righteousness and truth on his shoulders.
May you discover that humble authority born again on the edges of the world's notice. May that royal inheritance and authority of the stable be born in you, enliven your heart, and rest on your shoulders. Bear it abroad in peace, this year and throughout the ages.

Presiding Bishop on the Death of Nelson Mandela
[December 5, 2013] Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori has issued the following statement:
The people of The Episcopal Church join the world in mourning the death of Nelson Mandela, prophet and witness to justice. His leadership spanned decades, before and during imprisonment on Robben Island, and continuing into the establishment of a nation that aspires to serve the freedom and dignity of all human beings. He helped the world to see a shining vision of the incarnate Reign of God. We pray that it was not simply a brief glimpse, but that his labor may be joined to that of others, grounding and growing a world of peace with justice for all. May God welcome this shepherd home in peace.

[December 11, 2013] Now available for group watching and personal viewing is the on-demand video of the Saturday, November 16 sessions of Fifty Years Later: The State of Racism in America. The videos, are available here; to access, click the channel button within the main player. The Saturday videos join the on-demand video of the groundbreaking public forum sponsored by The Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Mississippi, which is a 90-minute webcast from November 15.
"All of these videos are great centerpieces for congregational conversations and curriculum on this important topic," noted Anne Rudig, Director of Communication. "These are truly resources for racism conversations and work at the local level. In addition, there is a facilitator's guide available for Friday information and other resources on the site."

Commonly known as YASC, applications for 2014-15 are now being accepted for the Young Adult Service Corps from young adults between the ages of 21-30.
