UPDATE 8 ON THE EARTHQUAKE
Dear Friends, Our trip to Sendai went very well. Pastor Esaki, Pastor Kato and myself were the drivers for this trip. We drove for twelve hours filling our truck with diesel along the way. We didn't know when the service areas would be out of fuel so we tried to keep the tank as full as possible. Thankfully we had a pass from the police authorities that allowed us to go to the front of the gasoline lines at the service areas and to travel the Tohoku Expressway to Sendai. We were able to bring much needed gas to a fellow missionary and local pastors in Sendai. The lines to get gas in Sendai sometimes stretched for one to two kilometers. While making another drop off at a local collection point in Sendai, I met the same man (the man with the Brazilian church connection) who had helped us earlier in Nagoya to acquire fuel containers! It was amazing to meet him again, and for us to be at the same place at the same time after traveling so long. He was with a team of people getting ready to head out to distribute supplies. We were able to give him some of the needed supplies he was looking for and he left. I wonder where I will meet him next! At the same center, I also met a man who was heading, with a busload of supplies, to Kesennuma, a city where we knew of a hospital that needed aid. We put him in touch by phone with one of the members of our church whose brother works at that hospital. I haven't heard what became of his trip yet. We also delivered supplies to a local church that was a distribution point in their neighborhood. They served us lunch. One of the women who was kindly serving us had lost her home in the Tsunami. Through this church we also traveled to the Sendai City Hall and dropped off the 200 liter steel drum of diesel fuel that we had brought. The ground around the city hall was still littered with dirt and debri from the aftermath of the Tsunami. Thank you for praying for our safety and success in this endeavor. Two more trucks have left from our church since this update. More are scheduled. The size and shape of what we are doing will change as more information is available and needs become clearer. Please continue to pray that we will be used of God to help those in need to share His love in word and deed.
