UPDATE 2 ON THE EARTHQUAKE
Dear Friends, Much coordination is being done by missionaries and Christian organizations. Right now, Japan is in the RESCUE phase -this is the time for the professionals and military. Roads and train lines into the devastated areas are closed off to the general public. As the RELIEF and RECOVERY phases begin - we hope to have a role in helping where we can. It is not too early to prepare though. We appreciate all your prayers. It is our understanding the Japanese government has decided that beginning March 14th, the power companies will begin shutting down power on a rotation basis (three hours at a time) throughout the Tokyo area. The nuclear plants that are having trouble must be shut down. The regional shut downs are to try and help prevent an accidental shutdown of all power in that region As it is, many are without power, food and water in the hardest hit areas. The Nagoya area has not really been affected. We have been in contact with our son Evan who is in Tokyo. He is doing fine. They have closed the school for Monday, March 14th. It is a precautionary measure. Many students commute. They just don't know what Monday will be like with all the concerns and changes happening. Peter
