Greetings!
Vacation? Bay-cation instead.
We receive your phone calls and emails, open your letters, and hear your comments. That's how we know a lot of you think the only thing better than a vacation is a "Bay-cation" at Mackinac Island's premiere bed and breakfast. We are pleased and proud that you have recommended Bay View to your family and friends, whom we've added to our own extended family. We thank you and will strive to continue to earn your endorsement.
Whether you are returning to Bay View for your second, third, or umpteenth getaway, or checking in for the first time, the "Welcome" mat stays rolled out and swept clean. Our dock porters are ready to retrieve your bags from the ferry and deliver them to our doors. Chef Rose Grant, a Bay View staple and legend, is preparing all your favorite dishes including those home made cookies for nibbling in the afternoon. The sunny porch awaits you and your book. Just a few steps down the dock are a sunset cruise and water sports on the Straits of Mackinac. Pedal on beautiful bike trails laced with wild flowers to historic landmarks, ride in a horse-drawn carriage, and browse the shops downtown. Mackinac Island remains timeless, as does Bay View Bed & Breakfast.
This year, we invite you to take a side trip and visit the newest addition to our family of hospitality destinations, Sarandipity. This extraordinary lakeshore home in the Upper Peninsula could be a refreshing alternative for your family reunion, company retreat, or similar gathering. Keep reading for more information about Sarandipity and Les Cheneaux Islands.
It's Bay-cation time! Here, you are always welcome!

Introducing "Sarandipity"
An extraordinary destination for extraordinary occasions
Named in honor of Sara Bailey Yoder, daughter of Bay View Innkeepers Doug and Lydia Yoder, Sarandipity is where the Yoders spent many a summer season in the Upper Peninsula, among the 36 islands of Les Cheneaux (The Snows).
However, children grow up and demands change, so you and your family -- or other group -- now have the opportunity to relax and rejuvenate in this breathtaking lakeside residence.
This Victorian-style jewel boasts six bedrooms and bathrooms and such sought-after amenities as a private beach, large heated pool and pool house, boat dock with access to charters, sprawling yard, nap-worthy veranda, even daily maid service and breakfast! If you find yourself at Sarandipity, you'll have truly experienced serendipity.
Additionally, Les Cheneaux Islands are home to an array of nature-inspired activities, including the popular Antique Wooden Boat
Show with its vast collection of restored Chris Crafts and other p

Innkeeper's Choice: J.L. Beanery
Ever loved a business so much you bought it?
Vickie and Al Johnson are customers-turned-owners of J.L. Beanery, the coffee house of choice on Mackinac Island.
Vickie, Al & Ms. Molly plan to keep the kitchen stocked with the much-loved breakfast entrees and other taste-tempting favorites like freshly made soups, salads, and sandwiches.
But be prepared for new temptations. We understand a panini press has been purchased, and Vickie's put down the plastic for a new espresso machine.
Host to splendid harbor views, J.L. Beanery is quaint and cozy but large enough for intimate receptions and gatherings. You can visit their Facebook page to keep track of Vicki and Al's first foray into coffee house ownership.
Welcome and best wishes to our newest entrepreneurs!

Stop in for a fresh deli sandwich, deli salad, and soup! Sit and relax inside JLB, in our
courtyard, on Yoder Dock, or take your meal with you. Pick from the sandwich board or let us create your island favorite!
Order ahead, and we'll have the perfect picnic made up for you and your guests.

Ms. Johnnie's Coconut Cake
 |
"Ms. Johnnie" Mae Foster of Rome, GA and her award winning coconut cake, pictured here w/ Lydia Yoder
|
This is an InnKeeper's Choice and one of our family's favorites. It takes a while to make, but the waiting is worth it.
Cake:
1 box yellow (butter) cake mix
(Any name brand box cake mix will do. Just make sure that it calls for 1 stick of real butter instead of oil.)
Frosting:
2 cups sugar
2 cups sour cream
1 16oz carton of Cool Whip
2 teaspoon Vanilla extract
1 large package of coconut (about 3 cups)
Directions
Bake cake as directed (makes 2 layers). Carefully slice each layer in half, making four layers in all. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.
Cream together sugar and sour cream. Blend in coconut. Cover icing and refrigerate overnight.
Frost each layer, top and sides after stacking. Gently and loosely cover with plastic wrap. Allow to sit in refrigerator four days.
