The vision

Henry Van Til correctly observed that "culture is religion externalized." By this, he meant that the culture of a people reflects their true religious priorities. The music, paintings, and film of a nation (not to mention the thousands of daily cultural expressions - how we live, eat, work, and entertain ourselves) express our priorities, our values, and our true faith.

film festival doug phillips

Doug Phillips, the founder, articulates the vision.

The Bible teaches that all men have faith, in that they either worship the creature or they worship the Creator, but no man is free from religious commitment. When a people worship sensuality or embrace dark visions of reality, it is always evidenced in the arts. There is no neutrality! On the other hand, when a nation fears and loves the God of Holy Scripture, their religious commitment is evidenced in the music they play, the way they dress, and their vision of family life.

The fact is that America is discontent with Hollywood's negative, monopolistic stranglehold on film and culture. The humanistic religious worldview of Hollywood elites created a rift in American culture and profoundly damaged the American family. We intend to respond, not by cursing the darkness, but by lighting candles. Building a community of independent Christian filmmakers is one such candle.

*  Romney was at a loss to explain why he dropped the ball. In fact, his wife is now blaming it on the New England Patriot receivers.

CATHOLIC NUN PLEADS WITH BIDEN TO 'FIX' CONTRACEPTION RULING

We are dedicated to increased health-care coverage and access and are supportive of the law's efforts to improve quality of care and patient outcomes.

I ask the vice president to help Catholic and other faith-based employers with a recent federal action. We are very disappointed with the Health and Human Services rule on women's preventive services that requires the inclusion of contraceptive coverage and sterilization in employer-based employee-benefits plans. The regulation denies adequate conscience protections for religious employers like us.

FIVE LESSER-KNOWN FIGURES TO WATCH AT CPAC

The Conservative Political Action Conference, which runs through Saturday in Washington, D.C., features plenty of heavyweight Republicans. But Politico profiles five lesser-known people to watch at the annual conference.

*    Alex Schriver - He's chairman of the national College Republicans, which will furnish much of the event's attendance and rah-rah spirit.

*    Brad Stine - What would a conference be without a comedian? He's giving a speech Thursday titled "Political Correctness & The Wussification of America."

EARTH'S POLAR ICE MELTING LESS THAN THOUGHT

Nearly 230 billion tons of ice is melting into the ocean from glaciers, ice caps, and mountaintops annually-which is actually less than previous estimates, according to new research by scientists at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

If the amount of ice lost between 2003 and 2010 covered the United States, the whole country would be under one-and-a-half feet of water, or it'd fill Lake Erie eight times, researchers say. Ocean levels worldwide are rising about six hundredths of an inch per year, according to researcher John Wahr.

BACHMANN SCOLDS OBAMA FOR SNUBBING ISRAEL

With President Obama in office, Israel can no longer count on America's unqualified support, charged former Republican presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., in a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington today.

"In this hour of need, America must stand with Israel," she said. "But somehow the president of the United States thinks Jews building apartments in Jerusalem are more dangerous that Iranians building bombs in Tehran."

Stung by losses to religious conservative Rick Santorum this week in three voting contests, Romney must court the core faithful who carry heavy political weight but have given little love to his 2012 White House campaign.

WASHINGTON FOOTING THE CELL PHONE BILL FOR MILLIONS OF LOW INCOME AMERICANS

Last year, a federal program paid out $1.6 billion to cover free cell phones and the monthly bills of 12.5 million wireless accounts. The program, overseen by the FCC and intended to help low-income Americans, is popular for obvious reasons, with participation rising steeply since 2008, when the government paid $772 million for phones and monthly bills. But observers complain that the program suffers from poor oversight, in which phones go to people who don't qualify, and hundreds of thousands of those who do qualify have more than one phone.

GENERAL: 'USE DRONES TO KILL' THE TALIBAN IN PAKISTAN

A longtime adviser to U.S. commanders in Afghanistan says now is the time for President Obama to change strategy and target Taliban leaders ensconced in Pakistan, using drones and other tactics employed to kill al Qaeda operatives over the past 10 years.

"We kill them. We use drones to kill them, just like we did al Qaeda," said retired Army Gen. Jack Keane, just back from a two-week tour of the battlefield and consultations with U.S. commanders. "The president has to change the policy and issue a 'finding' that this is a covert operation under the province of the Central Intelligence Agency."

IF PASSED, THE OHIO HEARTBEAT BILL,

COULD LEAD TO ROE V. WADE BEING OVERTURNED
by Janet Folger Porter

The Ohio Heartbeat Bill, which will ensure that "once a heartbeat is detected, the baby is protected," has already passed the Ohio House of Representatives. Now, if just 17 out of 33 Ohio senators say "yes," the Heartbeat Bill will head to Ohio Governor John Kasich's desk to be signed into the most protective law in the nation.

 ohio pro-life action

You've heard the slogan, "Abortion stops a beating heart"? When the Heartbeat Bill becomes law, it will ensure that: "A beating heart stops abortion."

Dr. Jack Wilke testified that the Heartbeat Bill will save 95 percent of the babies who would otherwise be aborted - that's 26,000 Ohio babies every year - a school bus full of children every single day!

HeartBeat Bill Ohio Pastors Press Conference
HeartBeat Bill Ohio Pastors Press Conference
We also have every indication that the current Supreme Court will uphold Ohio's Heartbeat Law. In Gonzales v. Carhart (which upheld the ban on partial-birth abortion), the Supreme Court, after nearly four decades of recognizing only "potential life" in the womb, recognized as an undisputed "finding of fact" that a "living fetus" exists from the time of detectable heartbeat!

What happens in Ohio will affect the nation! Already seven states are lined up to follow Ohio's lead.

Listen to Dr. James Dobson's interview of Janet Folger Porter.

The Heartbeat Bill (HB 125) will save 3 Ohio babies from abortion every single hour.

Send the Ohio Senate that message with three red roses -- the symbol of life (and love) -- on Valentine's Day with a message from you.
