We're only ten days into spring but already looking ahead to summer, when youth and adults each have their own opportunity to travel and engage in mission and fellowship. We'd also like to draw your attention to two employment opportunities with the diocese. Read about all this, and more, below. |
 Empowering PeopleEpiscopal Youth Event 2011
 EYE 2011, being held June 22-26, is the Episcopal Church's gathering for youth who have completed grades 9-12. This church-wide event only happens once every three years!
Every diocese receives a limited number of slots, so be sure to apply by today, March 30.

Engaging The WorldAdult Mission Trip To West Virginia
 The deadline is May 1 to sign up for the diocese's Adult Mission Trip to West Virginia, organized with St. Mary's, Sparta.
So far 28 individuals from 10 congregations have signed up to join the Bishop in working with "Almost Heaven" Habitat for Humanity in Pendleton County, WV the week of July 10-16.
Our project will be determined by the size of our team -- if we have at least 40 people, we'll be able to do a "framing blitz" and raise our own house!
Accommodations are two large, comfortable dormitory-style rooms with bunk beds (one each for men and women), with nice bathroom and shower facilities.
We'd love to have as many congregations as possible represented on our team. Those interested should contact the Rev. Orion Davis by May 1. See details and contact info. |

Engaging The World
UTO Fall Ingathering Nets Nearly $10K
 Anna Byrne, United Thank Offering Coordinator for the Diocese of Newark, reports that 42 congregations participated in the Fall Ingathering. The total collected was $9,970.88, including $110 in cash that was put in the basket without a name attached.
The United Thank Offering addresses compelling human need through grants to projects that alleviate poverty, both domestically and internationally, within the Anglican provinces, dioceses, and companion dioceses. Find out more.
The Spring Ingathering will be at Trinity & St. Philip's Cathedral on Thursday, May 19 at 10:30 a.m., following the ECW / UTO Annual Meeting starting at 10 a.m. A lunch will follows at Cathedral House; reservations must be made with Grace Livingston.

News From The Wider Church
Province II Conference With Stephanie Spellers
The Provincial Congregational Development Network of Province II is sponsoring a conference on May 5-6, 2011 at the Doubletree Hotel, East Syracuse, NY. The title of the conference is Anglicanism Remixed: Embracing the Other, Our Traditions and the Future. The conference leader and plenary speaker will be the Rev. Stephanie Spellers, author of Radical Welcome: Embracing God, The Other, and the Spirit of Transformation.
To find out more about this conference, read the Focus Issue of In Prov 2. All of the information about the conference, including the schedule and registration information is available on the Province II web site. The conference registration is only $120 per person until April 15, 2011 and includes two luncheons, dinner and materials. Register a "team" consisting of at least one clergy person and two lay people from the same congregation by April 15, 2011 and all sign in at the conference so that your team can receive a complimentary copy of Stephanie Spellers' book, Radical Welcome. Register before April 1, 2011 and your name will be entered into a drawing for a free night's stay at the hotel during the conference.
Hymnal Survey Deadline Extended
The deadline has been extended through Saturday, April 30 for the survey about a possible revision of The Hymnal 1982, by the Episcopal Church Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music. The online survey in both English and Spanish is available here. |
