PCI (credit card processing) Compliance Required
All Merchants (that means you) must be PCI DSS Compliant (payment card industry - data security system) to process credit cards. If the credit cards you process or store become compromised, you may be subject to HUGE fines by Visa and Mastercard. The payment card industry is taking drastic steps to reduce or eliminate credit card fraud and identity theft. Sweeping changes to the system will affect all merchants (yes, that is you, and us).
WineWare Software is doing everything possible to ease this transition for you as well as making you aware of your compliance status. If you are using versions older than the following list of our products, you must upgrade to be compliant:
SmartPOS - Cash Register Express version 12
SmartClub version 7 PCCharge Pro or Payment Server version 5.8
You must be compliant now - don't wait for a fine to be assessed. You're not alone, all vendors providing software that process or store credit card data are required to go through an extensive, and I must add expensive, certification process. We must be compliant too, now and in the future with all versions of our products. It is a different world in credit card transactions that we must all share.
It's our job to tell you about it and your job to do it.
Note: if you need to be upgraded, please notify us as soon as possible to get you in the scheduling queue for a timely upgrade. |

Adding or Upgrading your computer(s)
If you're considering buying a new computer or upgrading your existing computers, please note that your Windows operating system must be XP Pro (preferred) or Vista Business. Vista Home or Ultimate is NOT SUPPORTED. Windows 7 will be released in the near future and we'll advise you when PCCharge, CRE and SmartClub are compatible. When you purchase from a local office store, XP Pro may not be available. If you have an IT person to assist, please call us before they do anything.
If your computer crashes, please call us before you make a purchase so we can give you a correct configuration for your software.
 We are an authorized Dell reseller and business partner. XP Pro is our operating system of choice (as it is for 80% of corporate America). We have these computers in stock. We can load your software before shipping. All of our Dell computers come with a 3-year on-site service and warranty. Our prices are very competitive.
Note: if you have a tech person helping you out, it's always a good idea to call ahead of time to schedule an appointment that's convenient for both the IT representitive and WineWare Software so that we're sure we have time allocated in our schedule for you. |

New SmartClub version 7.1.6 is now available
Important: You must upgrade to Windows Service Pack 3 or unistall all SmartClub versions before the upgrade. Just go to microsoft.com and their download center. It is always best to have the latest service pack for Windows.
SmartClub version 7.1.6 can be dowloaded from the website: http://winewaresoftware.com. Go to the SmartClub tab, demo's and downloads, submit your info and then download the demo for Windows XP Version 7 as that is the latest version of the product. (note Vista users must call tech support for download assistance. Also, you must use Vista Business if processing credit cards.) ALWAYS BACKUP BEFORE ANY DOWNLOAD.
This version has many new features and here are the release notes:
- Added the ability for SmartLink (CRE Integration) to easily point to the station where the CRE database resides.
SmartClub User guide has been updated.
- Changed the way the wine club is prepared. Users must now click on 'Create New Run' before the Current Shipment field is enabled. Once the preparation window has been filled in, users must save the run and then choose "Prepare Run". Users may also delete or conclude a run directly from the Wine Club Preparation Window.
- CRE Shipping Product codes must exist for all shipping zones, including will call. An error will occur when processing credit that the product code does not exist if the product codes are different between SmartClub and CRE.
- Credit card information will now be passed from SmartClub to CRE if the user chooses. There is a setting in Utilities>CRE Settings>Update which allows users to either enable or disable the passing of credit card numbers.
- Users now have the ability to use the CRE Area tax table in SmartClub. Under Utilities>Miscellaneous, there is now a Tax Rates tab. Users can choose to not use a tax table, use a SmartClub table, or use the CRE Area tax table.
- When using the SmartClub table, users will enter the tax rates in the Tax Table window and the rates which will appear in the member window as a dropdown. It is necessary to run a report of members who have specific tax rates entered in the Shipping Tab of SmartClub and add those tax rates to the SmartClub Tax Table.
- If you choose to use the Area Tax from CRE, you simply check that radio button and your area tax tables from CRE will appear as a drop down. If SmartClub is using the default tax rate, you will see the member record reflect that it is taxable, and default will be in the rate field.
- Users can now update CRM when using the report generator to email.
- There is now a spell check feature in the email generator. (Must have Microsoft Word 97 or higher).
- Member type will now display when using Update Collected feature allowing users to determine the shipment for the Will Call member.
- Added button in member window allowing easy access to the CRM module.
- Added the ability to scan driver's licenses to populate member information when using the Easy ID Scanner in both the SmartClub database and the Kiosk program. The driver's licenses must have a bar code on the back to scan. This is currently available in 45 states.
- Added the ability to print invoices through the report generator.
- Added a function to mass update CRE credit card information from SmartClub (will require an upgrade to version 12+ of CRE which might be an additional cost).
- Added the ability to specify how to update Tax Exempt records in CRE.
- Removed the billing phone number from the invoice as it showed when using the window envelopes.
- Revamped the report generator to allow the export of more fields.

Tech Tips
SmartClub: How do I create an Out of State tax report using the Report Generator? If in a current run, simply use the Current Transactions table. If after the current run, choose the History Transactions table and select the correct date in the Advanced selection. Also, in the Advanced selection, you may want to include - not equal to "your states 2 character code." Also sort by Tr (transaction) Shipping State and use sub totals. If you use "summary only" then only the totals will be printed for each state. Make sure and select the proper fields to print as well as a "grand total."
CRE: Sometimes my buttons disappear for discount/quantity change/discount/etc. How do I get them back? Simply press the function key F12 and they will reappear.
PCCharge: If you are changing credit card processors, in most cases, you will be required to upgrade your PCCharge to the latest version. There may be costs associated with an upgrade. To purchase a tech support annual contract or upgrades, go to: www.estore.verifone.com. |
