Dear Notre Dame Families:

We are finishing scheduling conferences. Your student's conference schedule will be coming home later this week.

Our theme for this school year is "We've got Spirit."  We are celebrating the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit.  The nine fruits of the Holy Spirit include: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.  Students are studying the fruits of the Holy Spirit in religion class at all grade levels.  We are also incorporating the theme into our float entry in the upcoming Christmas Day parade.

Each month a different fruit of the Holy Spirit will be celebrated at an all school student led assembly.  For example, in the month of October the seventh grade led an assembly about the fruit, "Love."  The seventh grade did a great job incorporating music, a short dance routine, and a skit about "Love".   On November 3, at 2:00, at the Middle School there will be an all school assembly about the fruit, "Joy" led by Mrs. Hoeppner's kindergarten class.

Did you order from Innisbrook?  If so, your order will be available after school on Thursday and Friday in the Elementary School gym.  Please remember to stop in and pick up your orders!

As many of you may know, in my previous career, I was a financial advisor.  I still habitualy read the Wall Street Journal every morning.  I often read the Personal Journal section where I come across helpful articles.  As a type A personality, fellow parent, and ND principal I thought you would find this interesting:advice for type A parents raising type B children (available for seven days from date of print).

Please help me out!! When there are after-school activities going on in the gym or any other room in the middle school or elementary school students are not allowed to roam either building.  I know that it is fun to explore but I do not want anyone to get hurt.  Also, students should be picked up from school no later than 3:15.  After 3:15, students will be sent to the after-school program and the drop-in rate will apply.

Thank you to all of our volunteers!  WE ARE STILL IN PARTICULAR NEED OF PLAYGROUND VOLUNTEERS OVER THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LUNCH HOUR! I do not want to have teachers missing their lunches.  Please help with this need. To find out where you are needed and who to call click on volunteer opportunities.

Key club, our largest fundraiser, is just around the corner (November 4th).  If you would like to volunteer, donate, or buy tickets click here.  To learn more about key club click here: Key Club.  This is really an exciting event!!! Nine weeks to Christmas!! The Home and School Seroogy's sale has begun.  Seroogy's chocolates and coffee make ideal gifts!!! Flyers and order forms are available in both the middle school and elementary school offices.

All Saints Day mass will be Tuesday,  November 1st (this mass will take the place of our regular Friday mass).  Students are encourgaged to dress up as their favorite saint. Click here for more information about:the All Saints Day Mass

Market Day Dessert Bonus Days will be this November.  The more desserts that are bought and/or sold, the higher our profit!!  The desserts are delicious and great to have in your freezer to pull out for a quick dessert, especially with the holidays quickly approaching!  Our goal is to sell 500 desserts which will give us 45% profit for our school.  If each family buys or sells 2 desserts we will hit our goal!  As with last year, if you don't need any desserts, consider purchasing a couple of desserts and we will deliver them to St. John's Homeless Shelter.  Look for information regarding this fundraiser in your child's bag on Friday.  Deadline for orders is Nov. 7 and pick-up will be Nov. 10th.

allsaintsdayAll Saints' Day Celebration

November 1st, Tuesday
All Notre Dame students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Saint
on Nov. 1st. This day will be celebrated with an all school Mass at 8:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier.
All are welcomed to join us for Mass and come as your favorite saint. All Saints' Day is a holy day of obligation that honors all martyrs and saints known and unknown. A saint is a very blessed and holy person who loved God very much. Saints are people who dedicated their lives to God and served others unselfishly. How lucky we are to have such good people to learn from and look up to. As we honor the saints, we pray for guidance and courage and faith to also follow God in all that we do each and every day. For we too, are called to be "Future Saints."
Do you need to find information on the saints? Here are some suggested websites:
http://www.fisheaters.com/saintsart.html
Some questions to think about when choosing your saint: Which saint's feast day lands on your birthday? Who is the most popular saint? Who is the least known saint? Who has the most unique name? Who is a modern day saint? Who is a saint that was an American citizen? Were you named after a saint? Who is a saint that lived a life of solitude? Who is a courageous saint? Who is a meek and humble saint? Which saint do you pray to ask for guidance and help?
Which saint represents love or joy or peace or patience or kindness or goodness or faithfulness or gentleness or self-control?
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbor as yourself." (Luke 10:27)
cupcakesforlifeN.D. Spirituality funds: Cupcakes for Life

National Prolife Cupcake Day was on October 9th.  Our Middle School students took part in this celebration on October 10th.  Cupcakes for Life is a day to remember the children who will never get to blow out candles, unwrap gifts and enjoy some cake.  So on Monday, to remember these children and honor their birthdays, the middle school students each received a cupcake.  In addition to celebrating those children's lives the students talked about respect for life issues, how to respect life and God's Word on respecting life: such as Genesis 1:27 "God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."  For more information on Cupcakes for Life and a short video clip go to: http://www.cupcakesforlife.com/

"God's love does not distinguish between the infant in the mother's womb or the child or the youth or the adult or the older person. In each one God sees His image and likeness. Human life is a manifestation of God and His glory."

The hardcover book is available from Amazon for $15.98 and also available as an EBook. Read more about the book and the DVD series on Fr. Barron's website www.wordonfire.org.

"Father Barron delights in the ways our faith puts flesh on the word. He tells us stories. He brings out the art, architecture, pho- tos, and human faces. He shows on every page that those who call Ca- tholicism a 'system' are mistaken. It's a living Body. Fr. Barron wants the world to share his delight in that fact. Accessible to students yet stim- ulating for scholars, this book shows forth the unique civilization-forming potential of the Catholic faith and the Church's living tradition in everyage, including ours." -Scott Hahn
