Clare Dooley & Thomas Evans
Fort Adams, Newport, RI

September 24, 2008, did not begin on a particularly positive note for Clare Dooley. "It was a big day for me," she explains. "That morning I went to an allergist thinking I was allergic to apples, came home with an EpiPen and a new-found dislike for peanuts." Little did Clare know that her boyfriend, Thomas Evans, had plans for a much happier evening. Tom, a law student and boat captain, says, "We had perfect conditions for a sunset cruise, so I asked Clare if she would like to join me on the boat. As we came in, the sun was setting and Clare commented, 'our life is great.' With an assist like that, I figured the moment was at hand, so I took out the ring and asked Clare if she would like to officially make it our life." Clare, who was taken aback, says, "I actually can't tell you what he said! But it was the most perfect evening on the water ever."

For the wedding locale, the two Newport-based sailors and history buffs chose the waterfront Fort Adams. With Jocelyn Filley Photography 02 Evans Fort Adams RWS a ceremony on the North Lawn and reception on the Parade Grounds, the 200 wedding guests from near and far were treated to a breathtaking view of Narragansett Bay and Newport Harbor, almost a year to the day after the couple's engagement. "It was the perfect background since it is such a big part of both of our lives," Clare explains. This fun and no-frills Newport vibe resonated at the reception with effortless beauty. The blue and yellow color scheme, from the locally grown flowers in the bouquets and tabletops to the bridesmaids' navy strapless Corrine Moore dresses, was the perfect accompaniment.

To get into the dancing spirit, the bride donned ballet slippers under her classic Monique Lhuillier lace gown,Jocelyn Filley Photography 03 Evans Fort Adams RWS and the groom and groomsmen sported Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers and classic navy blazers. Clare's sister's maid of honor speech was a personalized version of "Runaround Sue," to which she wrote her own words and sang with the local band, Those Guys, as they played into the night. According to Tom, it was the "Best. Party. Ever."

Once they tied the knot, the couple honeymooned in Barbados in May and now reside in Newport.-CM
Dancing Shoes

In our  E-Brides Newsletter #25 we brought up the topic of wedding shoes. We focused on how you should consider the location of your ceremony and where you're going to be walking when picking out your perfect pair of heels. Now we're going to take it a step further.

One of the most recent trends to hit the wedding market is trading in a pair of fine white stilettos for a bit of pop. Brides are opting for colorful surprises like bold pink pumps or royal blue heels to cover their toes and peep out from their white dresses. We predict that this season we'll be spying even more color and variety as brides pick their favorite designs and colors over the traditional wedding white.

Other brides, like our Real Wedding Story's Clare Evans, are trading in heels entirely and instead going for flats. Mrs. Evans chose a delicate pair of ballerina slippers that helped set the dancing mood for her entire evening. Meanwhile, her groom and his groomsmen were decked out in Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers.

Thank you!

Thank you to the past, present & future brides that inspire us each day with your wedding plans and memories! We are thrilled to be a part of this exciting time for you and your family and wish you a lifetime of happiness.

Sincerely,

Susanne Day
