10 Ways to Market Like a Superbowl Ad Agency
Written by Barry Moltz, Small Business Speaker, Consultant, and Author

Finally, this year's Super Bowl game was more exciting than the commercials. Although 60% of Americans state they would rather take a bathroom break during the game than watch the ads, hundreds of millions of dollars are spent every year. Fortunately, the ads now live on the Internet well past their 30 seconds of fame.

This year, large corporations spent upwards of $3.5M for 30 seconds of  commercial time. This translates into roughly a cost of 3 cents to reach every viewer! In fact, in the last 10 years, Anheuser Busch has spent the most-$239M-for Super Bowl ads. Unfortunately, except for their "Weego" commerical, it seems that their ad agency's creative department took this year off.

Small business owners don't have millions to spend on Super Bowl commercials. Nonetheless, it's fun (and sometimes useful) to look at successful themes and tactics that Superbowl marketing campaigns used this year.

Here are 10 ways you can mimic the top spenders:

Like it, Pin it, Sell it - Why Pinterest Matters for Your Business

Pinterest. Is this a term that makes you scratch your head, or does it describe your latest obsession? I can definitely say around our office, it's everyone's latest obsession, and it looks like we're not alone. In December, 2011, Hitwise listed Pinterest as one of the Web's Top 10 and Time listed it as a Top 5 social network of 2011. comScore also reports that as of November, 2011, Pinterest had almost 5 million users.

Pinterest Example

And, according to Biz Report, new statistics, recently released by social sharing tools firm Shareaholic, reveal that Pinterest is pushing up the rankings to drive almost as much referral traffic (3.6%) as Twitter (3.61%) and Google (3.62%). In fact, Pinterest now drives more referral traffic than YouTube (1.05%), Reddit (0.83%) and Google+ (0.22%)!

 Chase Creek

Chase Creek Business Resource Center (Incubator): With help from the EAC Small Business Development Center, The Town of Clifton was successful in obtaining an additional $50,000 grant from Freeport McMoran.   Charmaine Chidester, SBDC Counselor, will work closely with the new town manager to make the Center a success.

The Business District Façade Grant, which the SBDC found for the county, was distributed to over 20 businesses and has greatly improved the curb appeal in both Clifton and Duncan, particularly on Chase Creek.  These renovations have sparked other business owners who did not receive funding to spruce up their facades.  The Town of Clifton has also been motivated to repave part of Chase Creek to keep up with the improvements.  The businesses will finish their improvements this quarter.
