In this issue we will share information about new papers accepted for the IRAPS and COCA conferences. SOT is on ChiroACCESS and a wonderful doctor and student sharing group called SOT Case Reports is up and running. Some interesting abstracts about chiropractic and osteopathic cranial manipulation are also presented.

Case Study Text Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) Case Reports is a free group-sharing concept developed by Harvey Getzoff, DC who studied under Dr. DeJarnette and has both taught and practiced SOT for over 35 years.

This email-sharing group is open to doctors and students wishing to learn SOT and ask questions of Dr. Getzoff about the various case studies and reports he will share. Please review the archives. Asking questions and discussing case studies is a way for us all to learn and understand clinical decision making processes.

 Low-Back Pain and CAM

NCCAM In one study funded by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) that examines long-term effects in more than 600 people with low-back pain, results suggest that chiropractic care involving spinal manipulation is at least as effective as conventional medical care for up to 18 months.

The palpated cranial rhythmic impulse (CRI): Its normative rate and examiner experience.

Cranial This retrospective review study aims to contribute data regarding the normal range of the palpated cranial rhythmic impulse (CRI) rate from a population of 734 healthy subjects, each determined by a different examiner. In the light of the findings of this study, the currently accepted range of the palpated CRI, 8-14 cycles/minute, should be reconsidered to be as low as 2-7 cycles/minute.

A preliminary assessment of the impact of cranial osteopathy for the relief of infantile colic


 Hayden C, Mullinger B. 2006 May;12(2):83-90.

In this open, controlled, prospective study, 28 infants with colic were randomized to either cranial osteopathic manipulation or no treatment; all were seen once weekly for 4 weeks. This preliminary study suggests that cranial osteopathic treatment can benefit infants with colic.
