Bhutan and Kenya: Sign up soon!
Kelly Perkins
Kelly Perkins

The Bhutan and Kenya Film Schools are shaping up to be our most extraordinary to date, and we are still accepting applications for both.  We couldn't dream up two better settings nor more compelling storylines for our students.

The itinerary for Bhutan includes trekking through lush forests, camping beside ancient fortresses, rafting and/or mountain biking, watching traditional archery matches, and keeping tabs on Araceli Segarra as she sketches and outlines her next children's book. We are also excited to be joined by three Bhutanese students, which will be an enriching cultural experience for all of us.

As for Kenya, we have added two optional safari opportunities for our students (click link, scroll down, and look to the right of the page.) Now students will have the chance to explore the incredible native wildlife by van in addition to rolling your cameras by foot! Whether you shoot Kelly Perkins's historic attempt to summit Mt. Kenya or concentrate on your own short film (you could do both,) the life-changing continent of Africa awaits us and hopefully you as well!

Only one spot remaining for this film school! The Antlers at Vail is offering a 60% discount on rooms for our students. Rooms are $109/ night, and we can match students according to age and interests if you are willing to share a room, cutting each student's cost to $54.50/ night.

Also, as reported in Adventure World magazine, "After record attendance in 2009, the Games will add two new Stand Up Paddling (SUP) competitions to the roster, along with the triumphant return of the IFSC Bouldering World Cup, which hosts world-renowned climbers at the only World Cup Bouldering event on U.S .soil."

Michael Brown off to Everest with First Ascent!

First Ascent Video one Michael left Boulder on March 26 to spend more than two months in Nepal.  He is shooting video and taking photographs for Eddie Bauer's highly-rated line of mountaineering clothing, First Ascent.

Michael and the RMI expedition group (whose lead guide is Serac's friend and 11-time summiter, Dave Hahn,) are presently acclimating at base camp. The first video is available by clicking the image above. For more information, blogs by Leif Whittaker (son of Jim, the first American to summit Everest in 1963,) and future video and photo dispatches, check out the "Born Out There" blog on First Ascent's website. Let's all think warm thoughts for Michael during his fifth attempt at the summit!
