Cat Astrology
AriesMar 21 - Apr 20 "Your Aries feline might be quite the surprise at first - at least until you let him know who's boss. Fierce and quick, he strikes unnoticed and proves it with his continual gifts left for your viewing pleasure. Red/Orange colored, Aries cats are very playful, sometimes displaying way too much energy. Give him lots of room and greens to munch on. It will put out some of that fire."

MRSA ... Why Should We Care?
The SuperBug in our homes
What's this? |
MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is all around us - it lives harmlessly on the skin and in the
noses of a third of the population. It becomes a problem when the
bacteria enters the body, normally through a cut or abrasion. Once the
wound becomes infected the bacteria can spread throughout the body and
cause potentially fatal blood poisoning.
Why care? Because the bacteria has become resistant to our antibiotic defenses. It has been reported that new stains of MRSA have recently emerged that are capable of causing severe infections in otherwise healthy individuals, and as the bacteria keeps rapidly morphing we can't keep up with an appropriate antibiotic . Another reason to care is that researchers at the Center for Hygiene and Health in Home and Community at Simmons College in Boston, found MRSA in nearly half of the residences they sampled, and they found the bacteria to be eight times more likely to be present in homes with cats than those without.
The bacteria was found most often on wet surfaces like baths, sinks and tap handles. MRSA can live on non-host surfaces for days, weeks, and even months depending on the environmental conditions. Cats pick up the bacteria from us or the environment and then distribute it around the house where we run the risk of being infected. This vicious cycle continues until the bacteria is completely eradicated.
How do you get rid of it? You don't. The best thing to do is to keep control of it in your environment. How do you do that? 1) Wash your hands frequently before and after playing with your cat. Good idea to use a sanitizer. 2) Don't let your cat lick your face. 3) Don't wash cat food bowls or toys in the same kitchen sink used for your dishes. And 4) Keep all cuts and abrasions covered with a clean bandage.
MRSA has been with us for decades, and it looks like it will be around for a very long time. By being aware, and following a few simple precautions, you reduce the risk of the bacteria becoming a serious problem in your life.

Outdoor Cat Enclosure
Safe and affordable
The Kritter Kondo is an outdoor cat enclosure designed to keep your indoor cat safe while it enjoys the out-of-doors. This economically priced cat cage weighs only 21 pounds, and is easy and quick to set up without requiring any tools. The entire cat enclosure collapses to fit into a canvas bag that is provided, and the unit stores within a very small "footprint". The carrying bag comes with both a handle and a shoulder strap to make it easier to transport. There are three interior pockets and a zippered pouch to store such essentials as treats, cat toys and your cats' favorite blanket. The dimensions of the Kritter Kondo in its carrying case are approximately 31 inches by 7.5 inches by 39 inches. The Kritter Kondo is a one piece portable structure made of a light weight steel frame, surrounded by a durable water resistant netting, allowing your cat to enjoy sunshine, fresh air and the outdoor environment without being subjected to the dangers of roaming free. Add a couple cat toys to the cat enclosure and relax as your cat spends hours entertaining itself. The dimensions of the safe play environment when the cat enclosure is set up are: 2 feet high by 2.5 feet wide by 5.5 feet long - this provides 27.5 cubic feet of "safe space". Now that spring is here and the weather is starting to warm up in the northern states, its time to start thinking about getting out doors and taking your cat with you. This cat enclosure is ideal for balconies and patios, parks and beaches, and very convenient for camping and traveling. Order your Kritter Kondo now and for a limited time we are providing free shipping anywhere in the continental U.S. "Don't let the cat out - no matter what it tells you!" Anonymous

Cody's Corner Miscellaneous Kibble
 - Cat Watch recently published an article in which it stated that based on statistics, we should assume that cats are high on the totem pole of pets. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association's "U.S. Pet Ownership and Demographics Sourcebook", cats outnumber dogs by more than 10 million (82 million vs 72 million). And, no question, there are plenty of cat lovers in the world. But there is a dirty little secret: Cats are more often neglected than dogs, more frequently relinquished to shelters than dogs and less often taken to veterinarians than dogs. We encourage all cat owners to be responsible and provide your animal a loving home and a family who is committed to the success and well being of your cat. - Be sure to visit our blog at www.cattreefurnitureblog.com and sign up for the RSS feed to keep up to date with schedules and product announcements. - Don't forget to visit and bookmark our website for the latest updates on cat tree furniture. www.greatlakespetfurniture.com | |
