Capricorn
Dec. 22 to Jan. 20

"Cappy Cats don't like to share, so don't even think about taking their comfy belongings from them, and make sure their companions are on the submissive side.  They are earthy, and subtly beautiful, calm, and comfortable with who they are.  Capricorn cats exude assuredness".

Aquarius
Jan. 21 to Feb. 19

These electric, magnetic kitties will do anything for attention.  You're bound to have a lot of fun with these cats.  They often act as a ringleader of many other animals.  They crave companionship and lots of playtime.  Wired for sound, they love to talk and will benefit from socializing.  They can develop their own group of furry friends, whom they will consider family.

The Right Cat Tree For Havana Brown
Wonderful personality, highly intelligent, need for affection.

Havana BrownThe brown color of the Havana Brown is one of the rarest cat colors and very difficult to achieve.  The breed first appeared in England circa 1894 as a result of breeding a domestic black cat and a seal or chocolate point Siamese cat and was named after the rich color of Havana tobacco.

England exported the breed to the United States in 1956 and the breed received official recognition in 1964 from CFA.

The Havana Brown has a medium sized solid muscular body, yet they are very agile, quick, hardy and extremely good hunters.  These are very intelligent cats that demonstrate a high degree of individuality and independence.  They have an endless desire to play and will reward your efforts and care with abundant affection.

These beautiful cats are dependent upon their owners for companionship and they want to be involved in all your activities.  So when choosing a cat tree for the Havana Brown you need one that will fit into the "people" center of your home.  That normally is the  kitchen or family room.  Because they are activity centers, and may already be crowded, there may not be room for a piece of large cat furniture.  The Purple Passion or Tropical Flower may just be the perfect piece of cat furniture.

Both of these cat trees stand only 2 feet 8 inches high, and are 40 inches wide from leaf tip to leaf tip.  The top flower has a padded center and petals that curve upward to snuggle your Havana while at the same time providing a sense of security.  The two contoured leaves are each padded and lined with a heat retention layer that absorbs and radiates back your cats' body heat for added comfort.  There are three holes in the trunk to tweak your cats' curiosity and challenge their intelligence.

Our cat trees are hand made in the U.S. of the finest material and will become the center of cat activity in your home helping to maintain a healthy, long and joyful life for your Havana.  Order today!

Hair Removal
A list of suggestion to remove cat hair

Cat BrushFor all of us who have tried removing cat hair from an armchair, cat seat, or our best coat, know it can be a daunting task.  Here are some suggestions that may prove helpful:
- First of all, it is recommended that you remove cat hair as soon as possible from any fabric surface.  That is because the longer it sits the more chance it will work itself into the fabric and be much more difficult to remove.
- Variety stores and pet supply places carry hand held sticky rollers that are especially designed to pick up lint, dust and animal hair.  S.C. Johnson's Pledge division makes a "Fabric Sweeper for Pet Hair" product that is very economical, easy to store and promises that it will pick up as much pet hair as 145 sticky roller sheets.
- Lint brushes feature a napped surface that also picks up animal hair.  The secret to success is to stroke in one direction only, or the nap will flatten out and redistribute the hair over the fabric.
- Sticky sheets are like large pieces of sticky tape that you can use on larger areas like furniture or rugs.  You simply press it down and when you remove it the cat hair comes with it.  After a couple uses it becomes a "trough-away item".
- You can dampen your hand, or if you prefer wearing a glove, simply moisten it with a little water and run your hand over the area using short strokes in one direction to scrape up the hair.
- Need an emergency small clean-up just before going out or just before company arrives.  Try blowing up a balloon, rubbing it over the fabric, and let the static electricity pick up the hair.  Works best on new surface hair.

Money Saving Ideas for 2010
Simple things that can save pet dollars!
Unhappy Cat

1. Reduce grooming costs by asking your vet or groomer to teach you how to do the simple things so you can extend the time between professional visits and save money.  Most cat owners can learn how to clip their cats' nails, or how to bath and brush them properly.

2. Trade services with a friend or neighbor.  Agree to watch your neighbors dog, if they will watch your cat so each of you can take a vacation and save boarding expenses.

3. Buy pet food in largest quantity possible because it can be very expensive to buy what you need in small quantities.  Because you will be buying in a larger quantity than you can reasonably use split the food and cost with a pet-owning neighbor, friend or family member.

4. Save money on prescription drugs by buying from internet sites.  Sites like 1800petmeds.com and petmedoutlet.com will give you a place to start comparing prices.  Even if from a comfort level you would rather get your cats' prescription drugs from your vet, nothing prevents you from printing out the price list from the internet site and taking it to your vet to see if he/she will match the price.

5. Buying pet insurance can actually be a money saving practice.  In the event your cat needs emergency care you'll most likely be hit with a major bill.  You can avoid "economic euthanasia" by spending a small amount each month on pet insurance to protect you from unaffordable medical expenses.  Check out insurance cost by visiting those insurance company websites listed in the margin of this newsletter.

The best money saving tip of them all has to do with "prevention".  Keeping your cat healthy means maintaining proper weight, feeding your cat high quality food, ensuring your cat gets a proper amount of exercise, and taking your cat to the vet on a regular recommended basis.  Following the practice of "prevention" will keep your cat happy and healthy, and hopefully some of your hard earned money in your pocket.

Cody- Domestic and wild animals don't usually mix.  Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) recently reviewed a number of laceration and bite wound claims for a list of the top wild critters that can attack domestic dogs and cats:
1) Snake, 2) Coyote, 3) Raccoon, 4) Squirrel, 5) Scorpion, 6) Porcupine, 7) Ground hog, 8) Skunk and 9) Rat.
Remember: An ounce of prevention ...

- It's called the HAPPY Act - Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years - and if it gets through Congress, pet owners across the nation will get a tax deduction for pet care expenses of up to $3,500 per person.  The bill introduced by Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, R-MI, defines a pet as "a legally owned, domesticated, live animal," which covers dogs, cats, and an assortment of other creatures.
