NEW PROGRAM!

MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK (MSW)

ASCM announces the start of the new Master of Social Work (MSW) degree June 6, 2011 (April 29 for prerequisite courses)!

This two year program will produce much needed licensed Christian social workers to serve the church, non-profit organizations, NGOs, LGUs, orphanages, and communities across the globe through holistic ministry. We are especially encouraging those with ministry related Bachelor's degrees to take advantage of this exciting opportunity to expand their expertise to include Masters level training in social transformation.

The MSW program will equip students with an academically and professionally advanced degree to take leadership roles in the social work arena. The executive leadership and management component will provide students with the skills needed for career mobility in both the local and international social work stage.

Through an innovative integrated training model, graduates will obtain the knowledge and experience to facilitate social transformation to children, youth, families, and communities as advocates of the discriminated, displaced, marginalized, and impoverished people globally.

Open to both BSW and non-BSW degree holders, this Masters program will prepare students for career placement and career advancement as licensed professional social workers.

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • English Proficiency Exam (EPE)
  • Completion of required application forms.

NEW PROGRAM!

MASTERS IN APPLIED LINGUISTICS (ALP)

ASCM also announces the start of the new Masters in Applied Linguistics program May 2!. This one year intensive training program is designed to produce language workers with the knowledge and skill to understand the process of language learning and development among Unreached People Groups (UPG) and Bibleless People Groups.

The ASCM Applied Linguistics Program (ALP) is offered in partnership with the Wycliffe Philippines and the Wycliff family of organizations; The Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) and the Translators Association of the Philippines (TAP).

The Masters in Applied Linguistics equips and enables the student to work with sensitivity alongside members of another culture, learn to speak unwritten languages, develop practical writing systems, record and describe the sound system, the grammar, and the lexicon of a language, as well as do ethnographic research and apply it to language development.

The student will promote mother-tongue literacy and the development of ongoing literacy programs, assist an ethnic group and government agencies in planning and executing language development strategies, facilitate production of a body of literature in the indigenous language (such as educational literature, folk histories and legends, a dictionary, grammatical description, the Bible, and health manuals), and pass on the above skills to others, especially to the speakers of the indigenous languages.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • English Proficiency Examination (EPE)
  • Completion of required application forms
  • Admissions Committee interview

Students completing this program will receive the fundamentals for beginning a cross-cultural and cross-ethnic career that engages in Bible Translation, Language Development, Multi-Lingual Education (MLE), and Ethnoarts.

Summer Intensives
From the President

From the President
Scott & Carol Rains

We are so very excited about the two new Masters level programs that God has helped ASCM develop which are starting in 2011.

The Master of Social Work (MSW) degree will equip the church with the skills and tools needed to effectively and professionally take holistic ministry to the community and the world.  As licensed social workers, our students will be able to bring true transformation to children, youth, and families with the love of Jesus Christ.

The Masters in Applied Linguistics (ALP) program will open amazing new doors to Unreached People Groups (UPG) and Bibleless People Groups across Asia as our students are trained as language workers who will engage in Bible Translation, Language Development, Multi-Lingual Education (MLE), and Ethnoarts.

As the world continues to change at an increasingly faster rate with each passing year, the missional church must find new, creative, and effective ways to train workers to fulfill the Great Commission. With the addition of these new programs, the Lord is leading ASCM on the forefront of holistic and transformational ministry in Asia and beyond.

We thank God for all that He is doing through ASCM! May the Lord continue to bless you abundantly for your ongoing support of this vital regional school!

Please keep us in your prayers.

Scott C. Rains
President
