Providing our customers with the fastest return on investment is of the upmost important to us.  So when we were choosing an SREC aggregator to recommend to our customers, we chose a company based on their commitment to our customers' return as well.

We are pleased to report that our aggregator of choice achieved Q1 SREC sale prices of $539 (before fees) for every 1,000kWhrs a  solar system produced.  SRECTrade just released their Q1 price (before fees) of $506.

There's Still Time to Take Advantage of the Treasury's Renewable Energy Cash Grant

 clock

The 30% Federal Treasury 1603 renewable energy cash grant may still be set to expire by year's end, but that in no way means a business has to have their solar system fully operational by the end of the year.

There is still time to be eligible for the 5% Safe Harbor Provision which states a system only needs to qualify as 5% "in progress" or "under construction" by December 31, 2011 to still qualify for the full 30% cash grant.

See US Treasury guidelines

Electricity
Facts and Figures
 ee

We know about rising gas prices, but how much have electric utility rates really risen over the past 10, 15 years?

In May, 2011 the average retail price of electricity to residential consumers was up to 15.24 cents for every kilowatt hour used (kWh).

That's up .19 cents in just one year over May, 2010 rates.

Going back even further, in 1996 the national average price per kWh across all sectors was 6.86 cents, but MA was already up to 10.13 cents.  And by 2009, the national average grew to 9.82 cents, and MA was at 15.45 cents.  So that's an increase of 5.32 cents per kWh in 13 years.

It's like getting 6 extra electric bills per year than what you use to pay 13 years ago if you're in Massachusetts.

In the same year of 2009, the US consumed a total of 3741 Billion kWhrs.  That's a lot of CO2 emissions...

Seeing the Value In Solar, To Their Business and Their Community

Local Businesses increase their Existing Systems

Two SouthCoast businesses that have solar systems installed on their businesses have seen such a great return on their investment both financially and environmentally that they are now having Beaumont Solar design and install additions to their existing systems.

Sylvan Nursery
Sylvan Nursery of Dartmouth, MA (pictured right) had Beaumont install a total of 182kW on two of their nursery's buildings in 2010.  From April 1st - June 30, 2011, the systems produced a combined total of 67,151.80 kilowatt hours.  When you calculate in the value of Massachusetts solar renewable energy credits (SREC) currently paying near $0.53 per kWh produced, that's a significant return on investment as well as 67,151kWh that the nursery did not pay the utility company for and 95 tons of CO2 that they've no longer released into the environment of the community thus far.

Beaumont is now in the final stages of installing an additional 64.96kW solar system on a third building (pictured below) at Sylvan Nursery which will produce an additional 74,000kWh per year, not only in electricity, but ultimately in real savings, real SREC revenue and real lasting environmental benefits.

A dental practice in North Dartmouth is also having Beaumont install additional kilowatts to their current 10.08kW solar system.  20.475kW will be added in total.  Although the kWhrs produced by the owner's first 10kW system are not eligible to be sold as SREC because the system received a state rebate prior to the SREC eligibility date, the new 20kW system will be eligible which will greatly shorten the system payback time to just 3 years, lower the practice's utility bill and its carbon footprint in the community for the next 20+ years.

An Evolving Business Model from Renewable Energy
Beaumont Staff Photo

The story of Beaumont Solar began back in 1918, when Frederick Beaumont Sr. began the Beaumont Sign Co. in New Bedford which quickly grew to a highly recognized and respected customer-focused business leader in the city.  But as with many business, and changing economic times, the family-owned company saw their current industry slow which warranted a decision; change with the times or succumb to them.

Enter Phil Cavallo, a former Silicon Valley CEO and entrepreneur.  Mr. Cavallo purchased the family-owned sign company six years ago envisioning a perfect marriage between the signage company's existing equipment and infrastructure, and the rapidly expanding solar industry.  Thus, Beaumont Solar Co. was born.

What was once a business model of 100% signage has today evolved into a business model consisting of 90% solar and 10% signage making Beaumont Solar a leading Massachusetts solar design and installation company. Still employing original Beaumont family members today, this evolution not only allowed for the entire existing staff to be retained, but additional staff to be added during times when the majority of companies were conducting mass layoffs.

successful renewable energy companies.

Kingman Yacht Center Wins Award for its Commitment to Solar and the Environment
Kingman Yacht Center
All three buildings at the Kingman Yacht Center, Cautamet, MA are outfitted with solar for a combined 100kW system installed in 2010

  Logo
The Kingman Yacht Center located in Cataumet, MA has been awarded the 2011 Excellence in Safety & Environmental Practices award from the American Boat Builders & Repairers Association (ABBRA).  Kingman's owner Scott Zeien was presented with this prestigious award which the ABBRA awards to recognize individuals and companies from the boat building and repairing industry for excellence exhibited throughout the year.

Being one of just 6 awarded, the association selected Kingman as one of the winners for their decision to install a solar photovoltaic system.  Beaumont Solar designed and installed the 100kW system on the roofs of the yacht center's 3 buildings.  Kingman now produces 20%-25% of their own power from the sun, representing 80 tons less of CO2 emissions per year.

So on behalf of the entire Beaumont Solar Team...

Congratulations Kingman Yacht Center!
And thank you for your genuine and continued commitment and concern for the environment we all share.
