| The Perdomo's have recently written three articles on Genetic Memory: Genetic Memory Part I Genetic Memory Part II Genetic Memory Part III. The interest in these articles led to the establishment of the Etz Yoseph Project, and to an interesting question:
"People need to study what He taught (we don't see DNA testing and all the other stuff there)."
It is true that the most important thing to do in this life is to study (and do) everything that the Lord has taught us, which is written in the sixty six books of the Bible. But, because we do not understand something, we must not belittle it, but instead humbly look into the Word of YHVH closely and see if we missed it before, or we did not understand it.
YHVH delighted Himself in letting us know in the Sacred Scripture, that He has create out of nothing everything that we see, but He did not leave us in writing the mechanism thru which He did it.
§ Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
Instead, our Heavenly Father is thrilled to continue to allow man, His creation, to find out: How YHVH has done things. We call it science and it belongs to YHVH just like anything else in the universe.
§ Job 37:16 Do you know how the clouds are balanced, those wondrous works of Him who is perfect in knowledge?
So is DNA in the Bible?
I. Witness number one.
Let's look at this account of Jacob, and you will be the judge. Picture it, about 4,000 years ago, Jacob is about to return to Haaretz, the promised land, with all his family and household and needs to bring with him a way to sustain them all, livestock.
Genesis 30:25-28 -- And it came to pass, when Rachel had borne Joseph that Jacob said to Laban, "Send me away, that I may go to my own place and to my country. Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you, and let me go; for you know my service which I have done for you." And Laban said to him, "Please stay; if I have found favor in your eyes, for I have learned by experience that the Lord has blessed me for your sake." Then he said, "Name me your wages, and I will give it."
We will see later on in the Scriptures that The Lord has revealed a secret to Jacob on how to accomplish this endeavor. We are getting ahead of our story; let's see first how it began:
Genesis 30:29-33-- 29 So Jacob said to him, "You know how I have served you and how your livestock has been with me. 30 For what you had before I came was little, and it has increased to a great amount; the Lord has blessed you since my coming. And now, when shall I also provide for my own house?" 31 So he said, "What shall I give you?" And Jacob said, "You shall not give me anything. If you will do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep your flocks: 32 Let me pass through all your flock today, removing from there all the speckled and spotted sheep,
and all the brown ones among the lambs,
and the spotted and speckled among the goats; and these shall be my wages.
Genesis 30:33 So my righteousness will answer for me in time to come, when the subject of my wages comes before you: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the lambs, will be considered stolen, if it is with me."
So Jacob will give to Laban all the spotted sheep, the brown lambs and speckled goats to take to another place for three years. Jacob will keep the rest of the sheep and goats and if any speckled or brown sheep or goat is born, those will belong to Jacob.
Genesis 30:34 And Laban said, "Oh, that it were according to your word!" 35 So he removed that day the male goats that were speckled and spotted, all the female goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had some white in it, and all the brown ones among the lambs, and gave them into the hand of his sons. 36 Then he put three days' journey between himself and Jacob, and Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks.
Laban thought this was a great deal, because it is known that usually the spotted goats and sheep will have spotted progeny, but if you remove all the spotted ones, then how are you going to get spotted baby goats and sheep? If you get spotted, their numbers will be very small. Does it sound like genetics to you? Jacob did not know about the structural molecule of DNA, in which the physical characteristics of the parents are transmitted to the children, but Jacob had observe through out 90 years of herding for his father Isaac and 14 years for his uncle Laban that this is the case. If you do not have spotted parents then usually you did not have spotted kids.......Why would Jacob scheme such a plan? He is likely to loose according to the wisdom of that time, let's see:
Genesis 30:37 Now Jacob took for himself rods of "fresh tree" and of the almond and chestnut trees, peeled white strips in them, and exposed the white which was in the rods.
1) Why the almond tree? Many people believe that almond improves fertility and its aroma stimulates passion in women.
2) Why the chestnut or plane tree? Recent studies have demonstrated that drinking products containing chestnut tannins can affect the genetic functioning of the individuals, manifested by changes in the DNA that produces cancer. By association, we may also deduct by logic that "chestnut tannins" may cause mutations that could be manifested as "spotted" skin color in goats and sheep.
Tannin is contained in the barkas well as in the wood, leaves and seed husks. The husks contain 10-13% tannin. (The leaching of highly water soluble tannins from decaying leaves of vegetation in the water troughs of the livestock may produce what is known as a blackwater river. The presence of tannins (and/or humic acid) in well water can make it smell bad or taste bitter, but not be unsafe to drink. In sensitive individuals, a large intake of tannins may cause bowel irritation, kidney irritation, liver damage, irritation of the stomach and gastrointestinal pain. With the exception of tea, long-term and/or excessive use of herbs containing high concentrations of tannins is not recommended. A correlation has been made between esophageal or nasal cancer in humans and regular consumption of certain herbs with high tannin concentrations. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tannin
Genesis 30:38 And the rods which he had peeled, he set before the flocks in the gutters, in the watering troughs where the flocks came to drink, so that they should conceive when they came to drink. 39 So the flocks conceived before the rods, and the flocks brought forth streaked, speckled, and spotted
 
In the flock there were no spotted, striped nor brown/black sheep or goat. The Bible specifies that the peel of the bark of the trees of almond and chestnut were fresh. An aroma from the fresh bark of the rods of the trees of almond may cause the livestock to go "in heat" and mate more often to become more fruitful. The chestnut tannins leaching in the water trough of the sheep and goats would be ingested by the livestock, go into their systems and may cause specific changes in their DNA (mutations) that would allow for the offspring to be spotted, striped or brown/black. The aroma of the fresh peel of the chestnut tress may cause similar effects as the animals in heat inhaled the chemicals in the air.
This is not too far fetched. If a person is exposed to the aromas of formaldehyde, it may be inhaled and the chemicals in the inhale air acts as the trigger that causes changes in the DNA of that person cells producing lung and nasopharyngeal cancer.

Genesis 30:40 Then Jacob separated the lambs, and made the flocks face toward the streaked and all the brown in the flock of Laban; but he put his own flocks by themselves and did not put them with Laban's flock. 
Now, Jacob separates the new born that were speckled, spotted or brown from the white sheep and goats of the original herd that belongs to Laban. And makes the white flock face the speckle flock, so when the white ones conceive will have the visual trigger as an additional impact, besides the aromas of the almond, chestnut peeled bark, and the chestnut tannin leached water, to have more offspring that are speckled, spotted or brown/black. Genesis 30:41 And it came to pass, whenever the stronger livestock conceived, that Jacob placed the rods before the eyes of the livestock in the gutters that they might conceive among the rods. 42 But when the flocks were feeble, he did not put them in; so the feebler were Laban's and the stronger Jacob's.43Thus the man became exceedingly prosperous, and had large flocks, female and male servants, and camels and donkeys. As a second precaution, Jacob only allowed the stronger livestock to be influenced by the aroma of the peeled bark of the trees when they were mating, so the strong ones will be the ones producing speckle spotted and brown/black colored offspring that will also be strong. But the feeble white livestock, Jacob will not allow them to mate under the aroma of the peeled bark trees, so their offspring will continue to be white and would not have any spots, or speckles, or the color brown/black... More genetics... How did Jacob know about DNA, genetics, characteristics passed to offspring? What about changes in the DNA sequence, called mutations, caused by chemical reactions between aromas and the cells? We do not even find out the structure of DNA until the 20th Century A.D. But Jacob had observed that speckled, spotted, brown/black goats and sheep will usually have an offspring like them. Just like Laban knew this fact, this is why he agreed with Jacob to do the deal.  But besides this knowledge of observation, Jacob was told by an angel of YHVH, that exposing the white sheep or goats to the peeled bark of these specific trees, and even drink from the water that may have contain the peeled rods that leached sexual stimulants or tannin into the water trough when they were mating that will produce spotted, streak or brown/black livestock. Ah! This was the part of the secret that Laban was not aware of when he agreed to Jacob's wages to be the spotted, streak, brown/black livestock. Genesis 31:10-11-- 10 And it happened, at the time when the flocks conceived, that I lifted my eyes and saw in a dream, and behold, the rams which leaped upon the flocks were streaked, speckled, and gray-spotted. 11 Then the Angel of God spoke to me in a dream, saying, 'Jacob.' And I said, 'Here I am.' 12 And He said, 'Lift your eyes now and see, all the rams which leap on the flocks are streaked, speckled, and gray-spotted; for I have seen all that Laban is doing to you. 13 I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed the pillar and where you made a vow to Me. Now arise, get out of this land, and return to the land of your family.' The truth is that for about 4,000 years people will not know the mechanism on "How" these things worked. Many Bible teachers have spiritualized this passage in the Bible, that I think it is just one more layer in the teaching of His Holy Word. Many geneticists criticized it because of the "Mendelian laws of genetic" without taking into account that environmental changes can be transmitted to the next generation, as is the case of the learned behavior of the rat regarding electrical shock and the transmission of this behavior to her progeny. http://im-09-ra.blogspot.com Putting our thinking caps on, we realize that this was a physical event; Jacob needed all that flock to sustain his large family in the Holy land. There are many more examples of genetics and DNA in the Bible: II. Witness number two: The case for Cloning with mutation: At the time when the Lord made Eve out of the rib of Adam. Genesis 1:21-22 --21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The Lord allows science to find out about the "How" with the famous cloning of sheep Dolly.
 For the skeptics, if man can clone a sheep from a few cells, do you think that YHVH can clone Eve from millions of cells in Adam's rib? Causing a mutation so the cloned Eve will be XX a female? III. Witness number three: The Genealogy of Messiah Yeshua in the Gospels of Matthews and Luke, tracing the Lord's ancestors all the way to Abraham thru the Tribe of Judah and Levi... Yeshua is the King and Priest. Zechariah 6:13 -- 13 It is he who will build the temple of the LORD, and he will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he will be a priest on his throne. And there will be harmony between the two.' 
The LORD has allowed you to know His Son Yeshua, our salvation. He has proceeded to permit you to know that you belong to Israel through belief in that Messiah Yeshua. Now, pray, meditate and call on the Lord if at a time such as this, the LORD is waking you up to help identify the tribes through DNA.
