Most graduates in over 20 years

 

       

On Thursday, May 9, 322 students of the Class of 2013 graduated from Poplar Bluff High School, the highest number since 1981, bringing the grand total of PBHS alumni to more than 21,500, according to school records.

Graduates stroll down memory lane

  

  

Prior to commencement on Thursday, May 9, Poplar Bluff High School seniors were given the opportunity to visit their respective elementary schools, not excluding students who attended Sacred Heart School.

PBHS group graduates with TRC degrees

  

  

On Thursday, May 9, Three Rivers College Dean of Academic Instruction, Dr. Mary Lou Brown, presented [from left] Adrienne Burfield, Zachary Miller, Vicky Bottorff and Shallyn Ward of the PBHS Class of 2013 with associate degrees from the community college for completing the College Now program.

 

Also taking dual credit courses through Three Rivers were Riley Greenwall, Anslee Latourette and Zachary Vincent, although their credits will only serve to lighten their load when they continue their higher education.

Cochran wins statewide scholarship

 

  

Danielle Cochran of the PBHS Class of 2013 was awarded a statewide scholarship from the Missouri School Plant Managers Association.

 

Cochran, who was presented the $1,000 check from her father Dennis - a MSPMA member and R-I maintenance worker, plans to study criminal justice at Three Rivers College and Southeast Missouri State University, then become a juvenile officer.

PBJHS students set honor roll record

  

  

On Monday, May 6, a total of110 Junior High students received awards during the 2013 Honors Banquet for finishing school on the 'A' honor roll, which is a record number, according to PBJHS Principal Bob Case [above].

Early Childhood Screening

The Early Childhood Center is accepting screening appointments through Tuesday, May 14. To attend pre-school during the 2013/14 school year, children must be between 3-4 years old before July 31, 2013 and live within the R-I School District. Appointments may be made by calling 573-785-6803. Please have child's social security number ready.

 

Last Day of School

The final day of class for the 2012/13 school year will be Thursday, May 16.

 

Summer School

Summer School will run from Tuesday, May 28 to Monday, June 24.

 

Gator Bowl fundraisers

The Poplar Bluff Cheerleaders will put on a yard sale Friday and Saturday, May 31-June 1, at Fox Orthodontic Center on 1300 N. Westwood Bldvd.

 

The cheerleaders will hold a Pancake Breakfast from 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at The Bread Co. The cost is $5.

 

Each of the fundraisers will help finance the cheerleaders' upcoming New Year's Day performance at Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla.

 

Long-Range Planning

Long-range planning meetings for the Citizen's Advisory Committee will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 4 and 11, plus July 9 and 30, at the 5th & 6th Grade Center.

On Monday, May 6, KFVS12 recognized our wonderful staff of speech teachers.

 

On Wednesday, May 8, KAIT8 ran a photo release about the Beta Club making a donation to Rayni Day Miracles.

 

On Thursday, May 9, KAIT8 recognized graduate Adrienne Burfield for receiving a scholarship for the UAB Honors Program.

 

On Friday, May 10, the DAR distributed our premiere edition of Mule Prints, which will become an annual publication of the school district. To see outtakes of the cover shoot, click here.
 

 

The DAR also announced the selection of our cheerleaders to compete at Gator Bowl.

 

The DAR covered the graduation ceremony as well as Project Graduation in great detail.

 

Lastly, the DAR reported about this years' valedictorian and salutatorian.
