First 'Athletes of the Month' named
The Poplar Bluff Mules Booster Club has implemented an Athlete of the Month recognition program, designated for a male and female high school athlete who exemplifies a positive attitude, enthusiasm, leadership skills, work ethic, high moral character and integrity, as determined by their coaches. April's Athletes of the Month were sophomores Matt King and Cassidy Harris.
Harris is a multi-sport athlete representing Polar Bluff High School in basketball and swimming. She holds an All-Conference title in four swimming events and was the conference champion in the 50-meter free and the 200-meter free relay for the 2012/13 school year. Harris currently holds six school swim team records.
King is a team captain for the Mules wrestling team. He is a two-time district champion, two-time state qualifier and placed fifth at the state competition in 2012. King has also received the MVP award from Coach Brian Wisdom and his teammates.
Also pictured in Jason Smothers, Booster Club president, who presented the plaques to the students recently. The program will run from October to May.

Bonus: Fish Tank Computer
Poplar Bluff Technical Career Center students of Johnathan Martin's computer maintenance class build a mineral oil fish tank computer, in which all the working parts are submerged in mineral oil rather than a CPU aluminum tower case. According to Martin, there is no advantage to building this sort of computer other than it "looks cool."
