Math-A-Thon top fund raisers visit St. Jude
Poplar Bluff Junior High students Adam Vincent [above, left] and Drake Dugas were among a couple dozen students [below] who visited St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis on Friday, March 22, for being the top fundraising students during the recent Math-A-Thon. Adam and Drake have been in the top three in their class for fundraising since first grade and kindergarten, respectively.
This year the district raised over $51,000 for St. Jude under the leadership of O'Neal Elementary Principal Lorenzo Sandlin [above, right; below, left]. O'Neal was the top fundraising school, bringing in over $15,000 for the cancer research institution.

Brain Breaks expanded to more classrooms

A total of 13 teachers received starter kits of supplies through another grant from Healthier MO Communities, officials of which program are also represented in the photo. Barb Green [left, standing], administrative assistant to Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum/Instruction Patty Robertson, put together the starter kits, purchasing items such as pilate balls, bean bags, sand timers, pom-poms and Play-Doh.

Lawmakers tour 25th Senatorial District

Student leaders present to business sector

Poplar Bluff High School students purchase donuts Friday, April 5, during the Beta Club's annual Donut Days fundraiser. Proceeds this year go to support Rayni Day Miracles, a local nonprofit that provides services to children up to 18 years old who are suffering from non-contagious life-threatening illnesses.
The fundraiser will continue over the next two Fridays, from 7:15-7:45 a.m. April 12 and 19. The cost is 75 cents per donut and $7 for a dozen. The Beta Club would like to thank Donut House for providing a discount on the donuts since the event is for a good cause.

Mike Owen [tall guy], future Poplar Bluff High School assistant principal, and Poplar Bluff Junior High Principal Bob Case [maroon pullover], attend a Capturing Kids' Hearts workshop March 26-28 in Texas.
The professional development administered by The Flippen Group is the cultural component to assure the digital transformation in a success in terms of improving student achievement. It will be offered to Junior and Senior High staff over the summer.

Spring Carnival
The Poplar Bluff Early Childhood Center Spring Carnival will run from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, featuring food, games, door prizes, a silent auction, a book fair, a bounce house, buddy bear and much more.
Teacher of the Year
The Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Teacher of the Year banquet at 6 p.m. Monday, April 15, at the 5th & 6th Grade Center. Tickets are $10 and can be obtained by contacting school principals.
Golf Tournament
The Poplar Bluff Public School Foundation is sponsoring its 14th annual four-person scramble golf classic at 1 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Ozark Ridge Golf Course. Lunch will be provided at noon.
Participants and hole sponsors are currently being sought for this fun and worthwhile event. The tournament will be limited to the first 20 teams to enter. All proceeds go toward the Foundation scholarship fund and other educational opportunities offered through the nonprofit organization. Donations are tax deductible.

The Poplar Bluff High School graduation is slated to take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 9, in the Black River Coliseum.

Early Childhood Screening
The Early Childhood Center is currently accepting screening appointments for May-10-14. To attend pre-school during the 2013/14 school year, children must be between 3-4 years old before July 31, 2013 and live within the R-I School District. Appointments may be made by calling 573-785-6803. Please have child's social security number ready.

On Tuesday, April 2, Kait8 ran a release about Kirk Smalley's powerful anti-bullying rally that took place at Junior and Senior High.
Kait8 also ran a release from a most humbling fundraiser that went down at the 5th & 6th Grade Center.
The DAR wrote a tribute to Ally Daughhetee in light of the new playground put up in her honor at Oak Grove.
On Wednesday, April 3, the DAR ran a photo from the recent Parent Teacher Organization luncheon.
On Sunday, April 7, the ShowMe Times ran a release about a PBHS student earning a scholarship to a prestigious art institute.
The DAR published photos highlighting PBJHS' performance at the Mineral Area Jazz Festival.
