The Methodist Home of DC
A letter from the CEO of the Methodist Home

Dear friends and family of the Methodist Home,

Spring is right around the corner and we are certainly looking forward to its arrival! In the meantime, we have been cozied up indoors with plenty of activities to keep us busy. In this month's newsletter you can find photos and highlights from our Valentine's Day events including our Senior Prom and our day spent with the American Health Care Association, plus information about upcoming events.

This month we are looking forward to celebrating Easter, welcoming the beginning of Spring (mark your calendar for March 20th!) and enjoying more of the engaging lectures, concerts, and social activities we boast here at the Methodist Home.

Some highlights from this month include:

  • March 5th at 10:30am -- The Wit and Wisdom of Winston Churchill, a lecture presented by Bob Jenner
  • March 17th at 2:00pm -- St. Patrick's Day Celebration with live Irish music
  • March 19th at 3:30pm -- Singalong with Dominic Chianese in honor and memory of William Shave

Dominic Chianese Returns to Pay Tribute

In May 2012 Dominic Chianese made his first visit to the Methodist Home for a singalong with our residents. He had been referred by the American Health Care Association as part of National Nursing Home Week. During that first visit, Dominic built a relationship with one of our residents, William Shave, and he stayed after the event to sing one-on-one with him, even lending him his guitar at one point. (To view video of this event, click here).

When Dominic heard the news of Mr. Shave's passing,  he knew he had to return to the Methodist Home to pay his respects. On March 19, 2013 at 3:30 PM Dominic Chianese will be performing a singalong  in honor and memory of Mr. Shave. Please join us for this heartwarming event at the Methodist Home, as we say farewell to our longtime resident.
Valentine's Day: Cake Pops & Poetry

Every month the American Health Care Administration joins the Methodist Home to spend time with our residents, participating in activities and singing along to concerts. This month, AHCA brought their sweet tooth and joined us in making cake pops for Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day: Senior Prom

This Valentine's Day at the Methodist Home we put on our best, smiled for the camera,
and enjoyed an evening complete with a candlelit dinner and live entertainment.

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for this special evening. It's always great to spend time celebrating the love you have with friends and family!

US News Releases
"Best Nursing Homes"

Published earlier this week, an article by US News entitled "How to Choose a Nursing Home" quotes our own Jennifer Brown, Director of Admissions and Marketing here at the Methodist Home and Forest Side. In the article Jennifer encourages us not to ignore personal preferences and habits your loved one holds dear, when choosing a nursing home. A video produced by US News mentions the Methodist Home and features video of our dining hall, courtyard, and other areas you might recognize! We're very pleased to have been selected as one of the Best Nursing Homes by US News.
