The Methodist Home of DC
A letter from the CEO of the Methodist Home

Dear friends and family of the Methodist Home,

It has been so wonderful to see many of you visiting this month, spending quality time with your loved ones and enjoying our newly updated home environment here at the Methodist Home. It certainly was a busy month, with lots of activities and special performances for our residents to enjoy.

Though this month is a short one, we are certainly making the most of it! A few events to look forward to in February:
  • February 12th is a busy day with activities including Sharing Quilts, Sweet Treats Contest with the American Health Care Association for our AHCA Day of Service, and Couples Family Style Lunch
  • February 14th, Valentines Day Senior Prom begins with wine and photo opportunities, followed by a Candlelight dinner with live entertainment in all three dining rooms.
  • February 18th Children from kindergarten-second grade from The Ballet Studio will join us for a special performance

To see a complete listing of February's events and activities, visit our "Events" page or download the February Activities Calendar here.

Don't forget about our monthly Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group, meeting this month on Thursday, February 7th and Saturday, February 16th. See "Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group" at right below for more information.

As always, if you or someone you know is interested in taking a tour of our community, please contact Diane Heyde at (202) 966-7623.

All my best,

Sandy Douglass, CEO

Musical Entertainment -- A Capella + More!Maret School

The maret school band and choir performed for our residents again this month. In addition, we welcomed for the first time the 36 Madison Ave a capella group. Hailing from New Jersey, they are Drew University's only male a capella group. The residents found them to be refreshing; they performed such songs as Feeling Good, as well as some classic 50's songs. They also spoke about their group after the show and many of our residents asked questions about how the a capella groups of today differ from when they went to college. For more information about 36 Madison Avenue, check out their facebook page here. To see more photos of these events, click here.

Black History Month
Dr. Goldie Byrd
Dr. Goldie Byrd

This month we celebrate African Americans in history. The Alzheimer's Association started us off with their recent newsletter commending Dr. Goldie Byrd, an African American scientist who has dedicated her career to researching the genetics of Alzheimer's, "particularly among African-Americans, who are twice as likely to have Alzheimer's as their white counterparts."
