Late Fall and Early Winter Camping
While some have already put their camping equipment away for the winter, many realize that Fall and early Winter offer some of the best camping of the year. As the leaves fall to the ground, the hills are revealed in a very different way.
Daytime temperatures are cool enough [high 40s and 50s] so hiking is a real pleasure, and the cooler nights make for great sleeping. The craft and antique stores are warm with potential Christmas gifts. Later this year, we will be closing parts of the campground, but most of the sites will remain available. And, we still have cabins available for every weekend through New Years. Pack a sweater and come on up.

Out and About At Trackrock...
Yes, Officer, I Saw The Sign (I just didn't see you!)With a show of hands, how many of you remember the old Burma Shave signs or at least have heard of them? They were an ingenious way to advertise a popular shave cream of the time, but served a dual purpose, possibly saving lives. They appeared along the roadways, before interstates, in the 30's and 40's and consisted of five small signs, placed about 100 feet apart, each containing one line of a four line poem warning drivers to slow down and be careful, with the fifth sign being the advertisement. Here are just a few: Don't stick your elbow Out so far It might go home In another car. Burma Shave Don't lose your head To gain a minute You need your head Your brains are in it. Burma Shave Brother Speeder Let's rehearse All together Good Morning, Nurse. Burma Shave While not nearly as entertaining, there are a number of signs posted around Trackrock Campground and all bear the same instruction: Speed Limit 10 MPH. We have a number of reasons for this including kids, pets and folks of the older persuasion that like to walk our campground but don't always hear or see vehicles coming their way. But another reason that should be top on any camper's list is to slow down and enjoy the scenery! When you drive past the Trackrock sign you are on vacation, enjoy every minute of it. So maybe we need to install Burma Shave type signs along our roads. Here's one I suggest, maybe you could come up with more? In our Campground Take it slow Let our little Shavers grow! Burma Shave We take our speed limit seriously, maybe you should, too. "Leave sooner, drive slower, live longer." ~Author Unknown |
Campground Etiquette 113
Some great camping tips:
One of the most important camping tips is, before planning for your vacation it is better to check the weather forecast.
First make a camping checklist, then pack - there is less chance to forget anything.
If you have small kids, it is better to pack extra clothes for them as they tend to get dirty and wet.
It is better to wear light colored clothes and avoid usage of perfumes, scented lotions and soaps as they can attract bees and mosquitoes.
Pack enough food. juices and water and get special foods for your children. Don't forget 'smores!
Observe the campsite closely for wasp nests, fire ants, dangerous grades and other potential hazards before settling in.
Be sure to bring a first aid kit.
Be careful while using the camp stove or building a campfire. Never leave any of these unattended.
Keep your campsite clean and organized.
