Dear Friends of the BBLA,

It feels like just yesterday when I waxed eloquently in this column on the various celebrations associated with the beginning of the month May and yet, the year is gone, and we are flipping our calendars to it once again.

By sprucing up our Bohemian National Hall we are mimicking the budding nature around us. The Hall is now blooming with new coats of paint, just as the spring cherry blossoms are in Central Park.

We would like to welcome you to our upcoming events taking place here and there is no better way to start our new season than by staging a massive exhibit together with the Czech Center for our very own Peter Sis. This is going to be a big one and you should not miss it.

Thank you all.

Dvorak's Cello Concerto Manuscript Unveiled

Photos by Julius Gorog, courtesy of DAHA.

Last month, the Dvorak American Heritage Association and the Violoncello Society, Inc. joined in presenting an original manuscript, the recently discovered solo cello part of Antonin Dvorak's American masterwork, the Cello Concerto, with an exhibition, interactive performance, and panel discussion by Dvorak experts. Attended by many cellists and cello aficionados, the event offered a window into the world of Dvorak's creative process and collaboration with his German-American colleague, cellist Alwin Schroeder, in whose personal archive the manuscript was found.

Special viewing hours of the original manuscript will take place on Thursday May 8 from 3-6 pm or by appointment on weekdays through May 29th. The exhibit will remain on view in facsimile for one year. Contact: info@dvoraknyc.org.
