One of the three strategic goals that emanated from the Forum's 2014 strategic planning process was to "develop new tactics to ensure that our research is making a difference."  Specifically, our new three-year strategic planning document specifies that:

The Forum elected 10 new Trustees to the organization's 60-member Board at its annual meeting on January 14, and re-elected 16 Trustees to new three-year terms.  The new Trustees are:

When the Forum released its report on culture and recreation in Waukesha, Ozaukee, and Washington counties in late February, it accompanied the report's release with a six-minute video that summarizes the report's findings and policy insights. The Forum plans to complement all major report releases with such videos.

The Forum used a Policy in a Pub event at 88Nine Radio Milwaukee as the venue to release its latest report on mass transit in early March.  The report - which received prominent coverage in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Milwaukee Business Journal, and WUWM's Lake Effect - explores common strategies used by transit systems around the country to enhance the speed and efficiency of their bus services. 



WOWCountiesLimited need for new culture and recreation funding in the "WOW" counties


A report released by the Forum in late February finds that the roughly $9 million in local tax dollars spent annually by county governments in Waukesha, Ozaukee, and Washington counties on culture and recreation has been largely sufficient to avoid capital repair backlogs at county-owned facilities and to meet operating needs. Consequently, the relevance of any new regional culture and entertainment funding source to those counties may be limited.

The award categories are designed to recognize innovative and outstanding performance by governments and school districts in the areas of financial management, effective use of technology or data, intergovernmental cooperation, and private-public cooperation. In addition, individual awards include our Norman N. Gill Award for Individual Excellence and Leader of the Future.

A Forum Viewpoint luncheon at the Italian Conference Center on March 23 explored the many issues surrounding school accountability, including how performance should be defined and what should be the consequences for low-performing schools. 

Milwaukee Community Justice Council seeking director

Since 2010, the Forum has housed the Director's position for the Milwaukee Community Justice Council, which works to facilitate collaboration among Milwaukee County, City of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin justice system agencies. The CJC is seeking a new Director - applications are being accepted through April 15.
