Schlumberger Education Expedition Bike Ride, April 2 |
Register today for the 13th Annual Schlumberger Education Expedition Bike Ride benefiting the Fort Bend Education Foundation. This MS150 Recommended Ride will take place Saturday, April 2, 2016, leaving Ken Hall Stadium at 7:30 am. Riders may choose one of three route options, from 10 to 79 miles, then enjoy a scrumptious lunch following the ride!

District names Teacher of the Year Finalists |
Fort Bend ISD is pleased to announce the names of the District's 2016 Teacher of the Year (TOY) Finalists. Ten finalists have been selected by the FBISD Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year Judging Committees, which met and reviewed all campus entries. Since all of our campus TOYs truly represent the best in teaching, it is always difficult for the judges to narrow it down to our finalists.

Assistant Principals named at Two Campuses
|
Fort Bend ISD's Board of Trustees recently approved two new assistant principals at the secondary school level. They are Dr. TaTanisha Parker, assistant principal at Hightower High School; and Marc Muscarello, assistant principal at Baines Middle School.

FBISD salutes our School Counselors! |
Fort Bend ISD celebrated the hard work and efforts of our school counselors by joining school districts across the country in celebrating National School Counseling Week, February 1-5. The District currently has approximately 150 counselors, and 11 College and Career Readiness Advisors, who serve more than 73,600 students.

The American Heart Association has designated Fort Bend ISD's Administration Building a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite in recognition of the District's progressive leadership and concern for their staff, as well as its efforts to build a culture of wellness that provides employees with options to make healthy choices.

FBISD Employees "Go Red for Women" |
To support the American Heart Association's "Go Red for Women," Fort Bend ISD employees at the Administration Building dressed in their red clothing and took part in a morning walk to help increase awareness about cardiovascular health. District wellness coordinators spearheaded the event as part of FBISD's LiveWell for a healthy life campaign.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year, killing nearly one woman every 80 seconds. Make your heart health a priority. To learn more, visit the American Heart Association's website at www.heart.org.

Kudos: Recognizing Employees for a Job Well Done!
|
Congratulations to Clarence Ford, eighth grade U.S. History teacher and seventh grade football coach at Hodges Bend Middle School, on being named the 2015 Eddie G. Bull (EGB) Middle Level Advisor of the Year by the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC). Ford was nominated for the state award after being selected by fellow advisors in the TASC Middle Level District 7/13 as the 2014 TASC District Advisor of the Year in September 2014. District 7/13 has more than 80 member schools from Galveston to Cleveland, Texas. He was also FBISD's candidate for the state award. Nominees were required to submit an application and recommendations to the TASC Board of Directors for possible award selection. He was recognized at the annual TASC Middle Level convention.
Clements High School Head Tennis Coach John Furlow was named 2015 6A State Tennis Coach of the Year. Selected by his Texas Tennis Coaches Association peers, he was recognized for having successfully built a tennis program at his school, providing quality instruction, teaching with positive results, instilling good sportsmanship and a love of the game in players. Furlow is the only tennis coach to work at Clements since the school opened in 1983. During his tenure he has taken two teams and more than 30 players to the state tournament. He was honored at the Texas Tennis Coaches Association's annual convention, where he received a plaque. His name, school classification and year of selection also appears on plaques displayed at Newcombe's Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels and at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco.
Quail Valley Middle School staff members were recognized at the 2015 State Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (TAGT) Conference. The school's bookkeeper, Folly Ligh, was inducted into the TAGT Board of Directors and will serve as the Parent Representative for 2016. GT Academy teachers Nanette VanCampen, Michelle Mangum, Tu Lee, Larry Romero, Troy Drayton, David Sebek and Joe Bernhart led conference workshops, sharing their expertise and inspiring other educators with their knowledge and experience working in the GT program. The school also celebrated student contributions to the conference this year, with six of their 8th grade students presenting conference workshops as well.
Dr. Joan Maresh, FBISD Visual Arts Helping Teacher, and Fahmi Khan, Clements High School art teacher, earned top honors in the Imperial Art Alliance's Winter Art Show. Dr. Maresh received first place ribbons in five categories, including Oil Painting, Acrylic Painting, Watercolor Painting, Drawing and Mixed Media. She also received second place ribbons and a first Honorable Mention for two other pieces, and had one of her watercolors selected as a finalist for Best of Show. Khan also earned top honors, first and third place ribbons for two of her art entries. More than 90 entries from artists throughout Fort Bend County were submitted for judging by artist Bruce Williamson. Rebecca Barkley of Lake Olympia Middle School is the Art Show chairperson, and Dr. Maresh serves as president of the Allliance.
