SMI Eligibility Determination Program

Beginning Jan. 1, 2014 CRN will begin operating the SMI Eligibility Determination Program for Maricopa County. Both CRN and Magellan are committed to making this transition as seamless as possible.  While there will be changes to the manner in which the eligibility program will be administered, the criteria for determining SMI eligibility will remain the same.

Magellan will continue to carry out the following duties:

  • Accept referrals for SMI evaluation through Magellan Customer Service at (800) 564-5465
  • Coordinate SMI evaluations through CPR or other contracted providers
  • Assign individuals determined to be SMI to an appropriate clinic to receive mental health services
  • Administer a program to effectively address complains, grievances and appeals not related to SMI eligibility determinations

CRN will assume the following duties:

  • CRN will receive completed SMI assessment packets through the CRN Web Portal (www.crisisnetwork.org/smi/), via fax and standard mail.
  • CRN will administer the SMI eligibility, complaints and appeals process.

During this transition there will be no disruption in the SMI eligibility determination process.  Eligibility services will continue to be offered through multiple entry points and assessment services will be available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Spanish Talk Show Focuses on Behavioral and General Health Issues

Buenos días y bienvenido al programa, Inspirando Cambio para la Vida.  Es un programa de bienestar de salud y prevención de abuso de substancias, patrocinado por Terros que es una agencia basada en la comunidad, dando servicios por más de cuarenta años.

You can hear a dynamic discussion, in Spanish, on becoming a healthier person and family by tuning in to Phoenix radio station KNUV 1109 AM on Saturday mornings from 9 to 10 a.m.

Behavioral health counselors from Terros Care Clinics discuss topics such as how parents can talk to kids about alcohol, drugs and sex, and how to get help for yourself, or someone you care about, when facing alcohol or drug issues. A person who has received services from Terros is interviewed live on the air. Listeners can also call into the show with questions about stress, depression and other health issues. In addition, the counselors provide information about community resources and places where people can get help.

Manuel Medina, Terros Vice President for Diversity said, "The purpose of this program is to reach out to the community with health information they can use for themselves and their families. The counselors hosting the show understand family and cultural values and they have professional behavioral health expertise." Tune in on Saturday mornings to KNUV 1109 AM at 9 a.m.

Ya se terminó nuestro tiempo.  Gracias por escucharnos y regresamos la semana que entra con otro tema de salud y bienestar.

Be an Effective Advocate for Children and Families

The Children's Action Alliance (CAA) Leadership Academy is for people interested in learning how to be effective advocates for children and families in their community and around the state. The ten-session Leadership Academy is free, but is limited to only 15 participants.  The program is designed to be interactive, comprehensive and rewarding with a curriculum that ranges from leadership skills to thoughtful analysis of public policy.  Through the program, you will build your leadership, advocacy and communication skills and learn how to bring children and their families to the forefront of policy in order to create change. In addition, each participant will design an individual community improvement project and, with guidance from CAA staff and advisors, will design and present a plan to tackle their policy issue. All sessions (except the Lobby Day at the Legislature and Graduations) will be held at the Children's Action Alliance office, located at 4001 N. 3rd Street, Suite 160 in Phoenix (just south of Indian School Road).  See the class schedule for details on dates and times. CAA is accepting applications until Friday, December 6, 2013.  Click here to download the application.  For more information, contact Amy Kobeta at (602) 266-0707 ext. 202 or akobeta@azchildren.org.
