Picasso Lithographe III & IV
Fernand Mourlot

Two newsletters ago we featured a catalogue of Chagall's lithographs, produced in part by Fernand Mourlot, owner of the renowned Mourlot studios.

Pablo Picasso was also an admirer of Mourlot's studio and it became focal point for Picasso's rediscovery of the lithographic medium. In 1945 he set up shop in the studio, taking over a corner of the building to work on his pieces. By 1969, Picasso had created over 400 lithographs at Mourlot's studio, including his famous Dove.

The gallery has the first edition, Volumes 3 & 4, of a set produced by Mourlot. Volume 3 covers Picasso's prints from 1949-1956. Volume 4 continues at 1956 until 1963. The set contains copies of Picasso's lithographs that he created for this edition: the covers are lithographs and another is reproduced on wove paper inside Volume 3.
