WALTON PTSA IS GOING PAPERLESS!! We are very excited to announce that we are going "paperless" for the 2015-2016 school year.  Please visit our new website at www.waltonptsa.org and sign up.  From this site you can:

  1. Order all your presale items including PTSA membership, the Student Directory, and the Walton Calendar
  2. Enter your family's information for the directory, enabling us to get the Student Directory to you accurately and much sooner in the fall
  3. Sign up to volunteer for all the events the PTSA will be hosting in 2015-2016
  4. Get timely information about WHS and link to the Georgia PTA, ECCC PTA, the Walton School calendar and more.
Once you have completed your order, you can easily check out with PayPal and pay for your items on your debit card or credit card.  The PTSA will have everything ready for you to pick up at the student orientations in July. Thank you for supporting us and our efforts to go GREEN!

Message from the Cllinic: If your child has Daily Rx Medication, Rx "as needed" Medication, OR Emergency Medication (EpiPen, Inhaler, Insulin/Glucagon, Diastat) in the clinic, you will be receiving an email from me between May 4-15 re: the amount of medication remaining in the clinic. Please note that prescription medications must be picked up from the clinic BY TUESDAY MAY 19th at 12:00 pm, and signed for by a parent or their designee. Unless the medication is for emergencies (as stated above), students may not transport Rx medications from the clinic. All OTC medication will be sent home with the student beginning the week of May 11. I will email you the day I have given your child the medicine. If your child has a health concern (Food Allergies, Asthma, Diabetes, Epilepsy) that requires a Medical Health Care Plan signed by an MD, you will be receiving an email from me with those medical forms attached for the 2015-2016 school year. If your child has a health concern and you do not receive an email from me between May 4-15, please contact me at 770-578-3225 x242 or at sandra.evans@cobbk12.org to make me aware of your child's health needs. Volunteers needed for Teacher Appreciation Luncheon at our Sister School, Brumby Elementary: The luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, 2015.  The theme this year is "Super Hero."  Because it is Cinco de Mayo, we are serving a taco bar. We are asking for donations from our wonderful Walton volunteers to complete the menu and decorations.  If you sign up to volunteer, wear your favorite superhero shirt or cape to the luncheon! Coffee Talk on Tuesday, May 19th: Does your child have trouble focusing or staying awake in class? Does your child have multiple opportunities for sweet treats during the day? Does your child complain about what food and drink is offered at school? Join us for an informal open dialogue regarding school food and how to collaborate to make positive changes. We need to work together as a community for real, sustainable change. We will meet from 10:30am - 12:00pm at 541 Glen Eagles Circle SE, Marietta, the home of Walton parent, JoAnne Hammermaster. The 2015 Jackie Auerbach Award: The deadline to submit nominations for this special award is tomorrow. This award is a terrific opportunity for PTSA members to recognize the extraordinary contributions Walton Staff Members make, not only to educating our children, but to enhancing their overall high school experience. For Seniors

Scholarship Information Needed: We will once again have a scrolling PowerPoint at the beginning of the graduation ceremonies honoring all those students who have received a merit based scholarship at the college or university they will be attending.  Please fill out the form that is provided on the Walton website's Seniors page.  Please read the directions carefully.  This information will not include any need-based aid, nor will it include the HOPE scholarship info.  We need merit scholarships only (academic, athletic, music, etc), the name and dollar amount.  (The dollar amount WILL NOT be part of the PowerPoint, that information is for internal use only).   In addition to scholarships earned at your intended college, please also include scholarships offered from schools you will not attend but were offered admission.  Again, that info is for internal use.  Documentation is required, please do not send originalsPlease submit this form to Cheryl Lenenski in the College Corner by Friday, May 8th, 2015.

 

Your Senior Evening of Inspiration is Monday, May 18th at 7:00 pm at the Roswell Street Baptist Church. You won't want to miss this great evening with your classmates. Families and friends are encouraged to attend this non-religious event celebrating the class of 2015.  Students, please arrive no later than 6:15 pm, wearing your gown only. The dress code is casual, but please no tennis shoes or flip-flops. Please eat before you arrive. Thank you!

From our Counselors

Walton's Summer School Program Registration is in progress. WHS is offering a limited summer program from June 1st - June 25th to provide an opportunity for our students to earn additional credit. Academic courses will be available for those students who failed a course during the 2014/2015 school year. Health and Personal Fitness will be available to all students for initial credit. Space is limited so please register soon. The cost is $275 per 0.5 credit course.  Registration forms are available in the Counseling office. The Cobb County School District will be offering a limited enrollment face to face summer school also.  See your counselor for details. Cobb Virtual Academy and Georgia Virtual School are also available for courses not offered in the Walton Summer Program.

 

Redesigned SAT and PSAT information: WHS Counselors have added some important information regarding the Redesigned SAT and PSAT so that our underclassmen can become acquainted with the coming changes. This information is posted on the WHS Counseling website under the "Curriculum" tab or you may direct link to it hereSophomores should have received a copy of the R-SAT/R-PSAT handout in homeroom. The College Board website is still the best place to read the most comprehensive information about the redesigned suite of assessments.

Walton Robotics Team Applications:  Interested in technology, engineering, and robots? Apply for a spot on the 2015-2016 Walton Robotics Team! Applications for 2015-16 Walton Robotics team membership are available on our website, www.waltonrobotics.org The due date for prospective member applications is May 9 at 11:59 AM in room T129 at Walton. If you would like more information, we will have an open house at our build site, the Walton Regional Robotics Center, on May 4, 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Raider Football Golf Classic: Join us for the annual Walton Raider Football Golf Classic at Indian Hills Country Club on May 11th. Registration starts at 11:00 am with a shotgun start at noon.
