The 2015 Jackie Auerbach Award: WHS is filled with special teachers and staff and PTSA members have the opportunity to nominate one of these deserving teachers for a special recognition, the Jackie Auerbach award. This award recognizes the extraordinary contributions Walton Staff Members make, not only to educating our children, but to enhancing their overall high school experience. Art Show and Silent Auction: Talented WHS students are collaborating across many subject areas on a unique project to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII. Teams of students have created art work representing the WWII theme which will be displayed at the Art Show on Thursday, April 23 from 5-8 PM in the Fine Arts Lobby.  Artwork and research will be on display with the students present to answer questions and talk further about their projects.  After the gallery showing, a Silent Auction of the artwork will take place with proceeds benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project. Music for the event will be provided by WHS's Chamber Orchestra. The entire WHS Community is invited and encouraged to attend. Join these students as they explore and commemorate this important time in world history by blending academics, fine arts, foreign language, and service.

Georgia MADD PowerTalk 21Parent /Youth Town Hall Meeting: On Tuesday, April 21st from 7-9 PM, youth and parents are invited to join MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and the Cobb Community Alliance to Prevent Substance Abuse (formerly Cobb Alcohol Taskforce) at First Presbyterian Church, 189 Church Street in Marietta to engage in the conversation about underage drinking during the PowerTalk 21 event. 

 

Walton 101 Presentations: Walton HS PTSA invites parents of our incoming Class of 2019 to our Walton 101 presentations at the East Cobb Government Center. Join us as we present "Walton: A-Z!" Choose a date and time that is convenient for you: April 20th: 7:00-8:30 pm;  April 21st: 9:30-11:00 am; or April 28th: 7:00-8:30 pm.

Book Fair Volunteers Needed: During the week of April 20th-24th we need a few more volunteers to help with our summer reading book fair. The volunteer shifts are from 10:15 -12:00 and 12:00-1:30 daily. Please email Roxanne McDonald at amcd@bellsouth.net to volunteer.

Beach Book Giveaway. The Media Center is sponsoring its 2nd annual Beach Book Giveaway during May. They are collecting books for readers of all ages. The books will be displayed in the media center and offered free to students, teachers, staff and visitors. As you do your spring cleaning, please consider donating used books in good condition. Books can be dropped off at the front desk Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. now through May 2. Contact Barb Beaver (Barbara.beaver@cobbk12.org) with questions. Thanks for helping us support literacy and a love for reading in the Walton community.

Senior Picnic:  Just a reminder that the Senior Picnic is Wednesday, April 22nd from 10:00 -12:30. If you graciously agreed to donate either water or Powerades, please remember to deliver them to 1981 River Forest Drive, Marietta, GA 30068 by Tuesday. If you volunteered to help at the event, please plan to be at school by 9:00 am. Thanks!

WHS Counselors have added some important information regarding the Redesigned SAT and PSAT so that our underclassmen can become acquainted with the coming changes. This information is posted on the WHS Counseling website under the "Curriculum" tab or you may direct link to it hereSophomores will receive a copy of the R-SAT/R-PSAT handout in homeroom this week. The College Board website is still the best place to read the most comprehensive information about the redesigned suite of assessments.

Walton's Relay for Life Team Needs Your Support! Please join the WHS Principal's Leadership Committee, faculty and staff and students as we raise funds to fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. Each person who shares the Relay For Life experience can take pride in knowing that they are working to create a world where this disease will no longer threaten our loved ones or rob anyone of another birthday.  The Cobb County Relay for Life will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 4:00pm - Midnight at the Jim Miller Park. PTSA Community Outreach Club Sponsors "COOL Girls" Accessory Drive:  The WCO Club supports the Cool Girls program through an annual accessory drive. This year's drive will be this week, April 20-24.  Please bring gently used accessories, book bags, school supplies and "cool" room décor items to our collection box in the front office.  Donation receipts for tax purposes and a verification form for an hour of volunteer service can be obtained from the PTSA Front Office Volunteer on duty at the time the goods are donated. Make a difference in the lives of under-privileged girls and get a service hour for cleaning out your closet!  It's a win/win! 

Walton Robotics Team Applications:  Interested in technology, engineering, and robots? Apply for a spot on the 2015-2016 Walton Robotics Team! Applications for 2015-16 Walton Robotics team membership will be available next week on our website, www.waltonrobotics.org.  The due date for prospective member applications is May 9 at 11:59 AM in room T129 at Walton. If you would like more information, we will have an open house at our build site, the Walton Regional Robotics Center, on May 4, 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Walton Chorus: We invite everyone to "Movie Night" Tuesday, April 28  at 7:30 pm, Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.  Admission is free.  Come enjoy your favorite songs from different movie genres sung by the 355 Walton Chorus students.  You will be smiling from the first notes of "Mama Mia" to "Mission Impossible" to "Don't You Forget About Me" and so much in between.

Raider Football Golf Classic: Join us for the annual Walton Raider Football Golf Classic at Indian Hills Country Club on May 11th. Registration starts at 11:00 am with a shotgun start at noon.
