Governor Snyder Speaks at 
Chamber Alliance Event
Macomb County Chamber CEO Grace Shore, Governor Snyder and Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel

Governor Snyder spoke and then took questions from the audience.
Nearly 500 people attended the annual Governor Snyder's Macomb County Business Luncheon at MacRay Harbor in Harrison Township on Monday, April 4. Maria Silamanos Sherman and Craig Sherman of Omega Talent opened the program.  Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel spoke and then introduced Governor Rick Snyder. Attendees were able to submit questions for Governor Snyder to answer after his remarks. This event was sponsored by Omega Talent, Henry Ford Macomb Hospitals, McLaren Macomb, Oakland University, Innes & Lotito and Walsh College.

Macomb Community College Holds Job Fair
Macomb Community College will hold its annual Spring Job Fair on Tuesday, April 19, 4-7 pm, at the Sports & Expo Center, located on the college's South Campus in Warren.  Co-sponsored by the City of Warren, the job fair offers the opportunity for community members to connect with more than 210 employers who are looking to hire.  Attendees should dress in business attire and bring a large quantity of resumes to distribute.  For more information and a list of employers registered to participate and the positions they are looking to fill, click here.


Zoo to Hold GreenFest; Selected for Fellowship
The Detroit Zoo is hosting its 4th annual GreenFest on Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17, 9 am-3 pm. The event is dedicated to celebrating Earth Day and educating the community about environmental stewardship.  Each GreenFest attendee that brings a cell phone for recycling will receive a reduced admission price of $9.  Guests can also recycle their phone at a local MetroPCS store and receive a voucher for discounted admission to the event. The event will feature earth-friendly crafts, zookeeper talks, science experiments, exhibits by conservation groups, a farmer's market and live entertainment.  Click here for more information.  

In other news, the Detroit Zoological Society was selected to take part in a year-long fellowship through the Cultural Competence Learning Institute, an initiative of children's museums and science centers working to advance diversity and inclusion in their staffs, programs and audiences.  As part of the fellowship, the Zoo will develop a master plan to advance its diversity and inclusion initiatives.  The plan will encompass the organization's diversity policies as well as inclusion in its hiring policies, programs, interactions with guests and community outreach. 


Huntington Bank One of Nation's Best for Small Businesses
Huntington Bank was named one of the top banks for small businesses nationally and regionally.  In total, the bank received five 2015 Greenwich Excellence Awards for Small Business Banking:  nationally and regionally for excellence in "Likelihood  to Recommend" and regionally in "Overall Satisfaction," "Advice to Help My Business Grow" and "Cash Management Overall Satisfaction."


Walsh College Appoints Schmidt and Harder to Foundation Board
The Walsh College Board of Trustees approved the appointment of two local business executives as officers of the College's Foundation Board of Directors.  Louis Schmidt, Jr., director at The Honey Baked Ham Company in Troy, was named chair and Dennis J. Harder, managing director at The Private Bank in Bloomfield Hills, was named vice-chair. In addition, Schmidt was elected to a three-year term on Walsh College Board of Trustees, the governing body of the College.
