Examiner's Corner
Beginning with this issue of the national AFA e-blast, AFA Examiners will answer your questions about the certification process, including the how, what, when, and why.
Our examiners collectively have decades of experience and they are not only committed to certification testing, but also to educating farriers to a high standard of excellence. Please submit your questions to: info@americanfarriers.org
This weeks question is: What is the single most important thing a candidate for certification can do to prepare?
The answer: Study, study, study, the certification guide until you know it inside and out. Too many candidates arrive at certification having barely opened the guide, hoping that it isn't that important. The reality is very simple: "Hope is not a strategy."
Examiners responding to this question: Dennis Manning, CJF, of Roosevelt, UT, who has been a member of the AFA since 1977, and John Voigt, CJF, of Carbondale, IL, who has been a member of the AFA since 1990.
Congratulations!
Congratulations to William Tobler, CJF, of Drexel, MO, for winning the raffle at convention that had AFA Immediate Past President Margie Lee-Gustafson, CJF, pay your registration fees!
Northern California Classic 30th Anniversary
The Western States Farriers Association is proud to announce the 30th Anniversary Northern California Classic at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville, CA, May 13-16, 2015.
We will celebrate all the aspects, innovations and people that have made the NCC one of the greatest farrier events in the United States for three decades. We have an impressive array of judges, clinicians and demonstrators. Some are internationally known, others are home-grown. There are more than twenty hours of lectures and demos designed to help you improve your shoeing every day. There is a world-class shoeing and forging competition, while the shoes are challenging to make, they are straightforward and useful. They employ skills you can use everyday. We will have time to mingle, brainstorm and network, often the most valuable time spent at any event.
Since shoeing horses is what we do everyday, every competitor will shoe feet each day. We did this several times years ago and, as you can imagine, finding enough horses for a large number of competitors is a logistical nightmare. This year, we borrowed an idea from the SDCFA Fall Forging. The number of competitors will be limited to the first twelve (12) to sign up in each of the three divisions. If you want in, reserve your spot EARLY. Don't delay !!!
Our longtime host hotel, the Best Western Inn, has always been very flexible with us in regard to the deadline for making room reservations. This year, due to increased travel activity in the area, they have informed us they will have to adhere strictly to the deadline, the cut-off is April 10, 2015. Please make sure to make your reservation before then to be sure you get a room and help us meet our quota of blocked rooms. Mention the WSFA to get our group rate. Please call 530.622.9100 to make reservations.
